Default Welsh couple need advice !!!!

We are a welsh couple living in Bristol England in our mid fifties looking to spend December to May in Arizona. Can somebody suggest a nice place to live / rent bearing in mind our love of live music, golf, painting and shopping. We are not sure if it is easy to rent for just six months but would be prepared to return to the same house each year, we would consider buying up to $250,000 but obviously this would tie our money up. Also we are not sure of the laws regarding living in America for Brits so would appreciate any advice.

Thanks
John and Tara

Since you're planning on having a good time (hey, why wouldn't you... with our lovely $'s state of affairs), I'd say it's best for you to rent a condo or a house in the area North of River between say Craycroft and La Cholla. For this length of time, your best bet would be to find a place on Tucson Vacation Rentals - VRBO® is Vacation Rentals by Owner Tucson - Tucson Hotels, Tucson Lodging, Tucson Travel and Tourism. These are specifically vacation rentals. Many have monthly rates, and you'll probably get a discount for staying a long time. If you like the place, you can develop a relationship with the owners and book it every year. Canadians stay here for the winter, so it can't be a problem for you. The allowed length of stay might be up to 6 months at a time, though, but there's an easy way around it here. The border with Mexico is really close, so you can just go down there for a few hours and reset the clock if you'd like to stay longer than that. You can find more details here USCIS Home Page . I'd imagine there is such info on your embassy's web site as well.

Good luck and enjoy your time here!

As always, SierraAZ's advice is good. VRBO is a great option. I know we stayed in a nice place in the area mentioned (specifically just off Skyline Drive near Campbell) and enjoyed the area very much. We were there in the summer so the rates were very low - they will be higher in the winter of course.

Smile We have a place that might just fit your bill....

Hi John & Tara,

I was just browsing this website and saw your post and although I realize you posted way back in 2/08, I thought I would mention to you both that we are a Canadian couple that own a lovely 2 bed/2 bath home that backs on to Arizona National Golf Course in an area called "Sabino Springs" which is right against the Catalina mountains. Absolutely stunning area and our home was newly furnished/outfitted in 5/08 and has been renting very well so far with excellent feedback. We rent by the week, but prefer to rent by the month and for longer term stays due to less wear and tear on our lovely home. If you are still interested in pursuing this, please feel free to check out our website at www.vrbo.com, listing #187388. Unfortunately we are fully booked for January-March of 2009, but you might find another time in our calendar that would suit your needs. You honestly will not be disappointed, the house and the surrounding area are pretty special (not trying to sound like a braggart of anything, but I am into home decor and am quite house proud!).

All the best in your search,

Jane O'Meara
