There used to be a place on the west side of Campbell, between Grant and Glenn. I am pretty sure it was at about Copper Street. It looks like there is a Dunkin' Donuts and Jimmy John's in that spot now. In fact, on closer inspection, it appears the Jimmy John's is the building where the bagel shop was with the brand new DD just south of the chain pizza place. Do not remember the name of the individually owned bagel shop, but the owner was from New York. They did a pretty good business.

How many years ago are you talking about? Maybe you remember it?

On an unrelated note, does Campbell ever look different now south of Grant Road, I guess it was widened to help relieve what was pretty bad traffic approaching Speedway going back to the 80s and 90s.

In any case, my point about bagels being popular back then was that there must be entrepreneur now who sees an opportunity to serve a much bigger Tucson population an alternative to chain store bagels.

Originally i moved to Tucson in 1967...so the kosher deli was there through the 80s I still see something over that way...but I havent lived in Tucson since the early 80s...Appreciate your response...It was the hot bagel bakery or shop also...just looking on the net and i have found a new place in town on Oracle called the Bagel joint...reviews are favorable...I will be visiting Tucson in April so we will get a chance to try them...;-)

Well, be sure to keep us updated. If I ever visit Tucson, it would be nice to know where to get a good bagel.

the kosher deli on 5th St was Feig's.....it closed in 2008 and this somewhat-similar place now occupies the space:

I like Bruegger's and I don't care if they're a chain. I've never been to the other chain, Einstein Bros (4 locations here).

You could always contact the shop you like wherever it is that you're from, TwoWheelMan. Maybe they offer overnight delivery. Otherwise, I guess you're stuck with crap like Thomas' or Pepperidge Farms - two of the saddest excuses for a 'bagel' I've ever wasted money on.

If you want to go deep, you could always call or visit the Tucson Jewish Community Center at 3800 E River Rd. Somebody there could point you in the right direction.

Brueggers are okay but they do not make their bagels on the premesis..they are pre made...frozen...then distributed to their outlets...I want a real in store made fresh bagel...no compromises for this old fart...LOL

I could have sworn that I've seen the steamy boiling vats for bagel-making at the Brueggers on N. Campbell. Were my eyes deceiving me? That was a year or two ago. I had the distinct impression that they were made on premises.

Anyway, I wish you good luck on your sacred quest, TwoWheelMan!
