Amazing Pizza
Its worth mentioning because it used to suck pretty bad. I have lived in Oro Valley for about 20 years, and during all of that time there was never a good place to get pizza, or even a sandwich for that matter. We used to order from Sgt pepperonis and sassos, only half satisfied, but settled on what was close.
We went back to sassos the other day after several months and pleasantly to our surprise someone else took it over and actually made something out of it. They dont serve crappy pizza any longer, it was truly amazing. Now all they need is wine and beer and i might actually have a place to go each week or two.
Kudos to the new owners. Great job, and thanks for finally bringing something of quality to the OV.

Sounds great! Where abouts is it located? (we're new to the area and always love hearing great restaurant reviews to try new places eventually)

Sassos is the first place i have been to in tucson that actually uses san marzano tomatoes and hand stretched mozzarella..
Trying to compare it to mamas or brooklyns doesnt even work.. they are in different leagues.. Im talking real neapolitan pizza..

You say that Sassos has good pizza now. When did this happen? Will give it another try.
Sasso's has decent sandwiches, we have tried the pizza several times and it was not good. Once they were serving slices and that was the only time it was good.

Nto sure
We first noticed it a month or two ago.. The only time i have had neapoitan pizza like sassos has was a few years ago in New york.
not sure when the actual ownership change happened. We were there tonight, and it looks like they are about to expand into the space next door with a full bar! Super exciting!

That's great news, as I'm moving to Oro Valley in mid May.
Hey, if it's real Napolitano style (I lived in a suburb of Napoli... I know, lucky me), they'd be using wood burning brick ovens
Sounds great, though. Can't wait to try it.

Pizza
Based on the subtle smokey flavor i think they must be cooking them in some sort of wood burning oven?
