It's a run down, however quite charming, large small-town, with no real employment prospects. Most people who are young come and go, usually for UofA.

I miss it some days.

I use lightly traveled streets in Tucson and I think if you try that you'll feel calmer. For example, Glenn, Pima and Fifth are often more relaxed and less stressful than Broadway or Speedway or 22nd or Grant. I feel like it's another era on those little streets. You will not be driving fifty miles an hour, but you will not sit in a traffic jam and travel time is about the same! The difference is you will arrive feeling happy and relaxed. While I travel on smaller streets I look at houses and small businesses that interest me. For northbound travel, try Tucson Boulevard, Columbus, Dodge or Country Club instead of Alvernon or Campbell. In the mornings on weekends you could fire a cannon on these small streets and not hit anyone. If you stay off the busy streets and combine outings, this central town is so much easier than many cities. I lived in LA for many years. This place is more relaxing by far. Middays on Glenn are deserted yet people still cram themselves onto Grant. I doubt they are all heading for the freeway, they just don't seem to know other easy routes or they're fooled into thinking speed limits are all there is to traveling.
