gay life/scene in tucson
hello i am moving to tucson for UA and I was wondering what the gay crowd/scene is like. is everyone gay friendly? I know there are places that are different. but is this like a small gossip town or is it accepting? like L.A. Las Vegas & NYC? are there any gay clubs/bars that anyone know of in Tucson?

Hey there,
I'm also moving to UA in fall for grad school and was wondering generally the same thing myself. So far, I've heard a mixed bag of things, but overall the town is fairly accepting. I'm fairly sure there is a bar on 4th near the university that caters to gay university students....but if anyone else wants to confirm that (and the name) feel free to do so.

There is also Woodys at 3710 N. Oracle Rd.
I always found Tucson to be pretty gay friendly, but I suppose that all depends on the type of people that you surround yourself with.
Check out this website for more info: Gay Tucson, gay bars Tucson, gay Realtor,

When I lived in Tucson from 1991 until 1998, I found Tucson to be a very gay-friendly city. It's culturally a very "educated" town, and people there are use to seeing a lot of "edgy" and artistic people around. I wouldn't worry about it--I never had an issue (being gay myself).
The Univ of Arizona campus has some info on gay friendly places too, if you check out their website.

Yes, Tucson is tolerant to every sort of whimsical lifestyle that comes down the Pike . Theres always plenty of people who will support whatever endeavor you want to participate in so it can be considered permissable and even 'moral' . If you want to hump a Cactus 3 times per week, youll find lots of Tucsonians who can point you in the right direction.

I don't go to the bars, but there is Wingspan, a GLBT community center, on 6th st and 4th ave (though they may be moving?) to get all kinds of info. I have not seen many couples walking around, but I know we are there. Many gay couples live near downtown in converted warehouses and the new urban chic (trying to be Soho?) places. Also near Campbell Ave, which is a bit hipper.
Welcome to Tucson! It is very accepting, but not very overt!

Keep in mind that there really is no "gay area" in Tucson as there is in other cities. The community is pretty integrated here.
