i want to come down and rent a place for the winter and spring and see how it feels really living in Tucson....i have visited the city often the last 2 years, and it seems that there are areas not far out but with space and cactus...suggestions?...

Not really clear on whether you're looking for someplace in Tucson or someplace outside of it. If there's anyplace in Tucson that DOESN'T have a deserty feel, then I've never seen it. Places off Ina Rd. west of Silverbell...well, heck...almost anyplace in Tucson north of Skyline should suit you. Desert and mountains, too. "Real purdy" as they say in the boondocks.

Deserty feel
The bits off Silverbell up against the Tucson mountains can be pretty nice but if you want something a little more rugged, I *really* like the areas behind the Tucson Mts, by Tucson Mountain Park...Places like Picture Rocks, Avra Valley, etc. Then you can just take 86/Ajo Road into town.

started really thinking @ the day 2 day of driving ......i mean i am lucky enough to have a house in sedona- when in tucson it will be great to ride bikes , too.....was amazed at a couple of neighborhoods just west of downtown and how quick it took to get from 4th ave and downtown to residential......

I love Arizona, and have lived/visited there off and on over the past 5 years. There is a nice little town, called Globe, near the San Carlos Mtns. about two hours from Tucson. Is artsy, eclectic, eccentric people, but I think a growing retirement area as well.

yes, W of I10 os where i was talking about.....went to a party once further west, near the mountains......it was a bit further than biking distance but amazingly close to the DT area......

Off Silverbell between Speedway & Grant is an eclectic neighborhood with a very close, watching out for each other, atmosphere - the have neighborhood get-togethers, organize to clean-up the Anklin Wash behind their homes regularly: Great mix of folks from U of A professors, to local radio DJ's, retireds, and young families. Brichta Elementary School is right there.
