Don't know what job your'e seeking but the County and State have sites and bulletin boards with job postings. For the county it is in the old county building, not the courthouse with the dome. Been a long time since I worked for the State but they had an employment bulletin board in the building. Good Luck
.

I think the job market is tough anywhere you look. It's an employers market, as they say.

I know I will not find my 'ideal' job right away--whatever that is---so now after 2 weeks, I am going to have to take another route to get by. I am someone who is very picky when it comes to finding a job too, so...

I know there are some resorts here & I'm very sick of working in an office, so I was thinking of maybe going that route. Can anyone give me a list of the names of all of them? At this point, I may just have to take a teller job or something. Have found that there are not many options here in Tucson---or else I'm just not looking in the right places?

I don't want to do what I've always done or similar jobs that are on my resume--I am looking for a change. But of course the job sites & some companies pick up on keywords on your resume & call you about the same type of job you're already doing. I hate that.
How about applying at the Univ of A Medical Center. It is a large facility. They have a mega phone operators there! I used to get medical care there and made friends w/ may a receptionists so I know a lot of the people in the area gets jobs right at the hospital there. Go and apply for a job there before applying for a job in Phoenix. Also try the public library.

You're a lot better off finding a job here if you have a couple of years experience in that field. Entry-level jobs in Tucson are typically filled by recent UA grads who remain here.
When I first moved here (without a job), I ended up working in a call center for 6 months before I got a decent job in the field I wanted to work in. It's all about persistence, but I think your plan to harass companies that you apply for is not a good course of action. Just keep applying.
Worst case scenario, you could always get a job in Chandler and commute up there. It's not really a good idea with gas prices now, but it's only about 70 miles to there from Marana.

Thanks, guys. LOL--it's becoming all about sacrifice---and persistence. I've actually got a couple prospects for companies in SE Tucson---trying to get interviews arranged for both, hopefully. I'm going on my 4th week living here without a full-time job

Guess I forgot to mention that I live here with my boyfriend, so commuting is not an option. I wouldn't do it anyways even if I was living alone--yikes!! I hated it enough at my last job when I had to commute 25 miles each way--lol---don't think I could do 60!!

We are planning on getting a house in SE Tucson & that's actually where most of the places I've been applying to are, I've noticed.

Anyone know of any other companies down there that maybe I haven't checked out yet?

I've been to the U of A's website to search for jobs & found nothing. I'm assuming that would also include U of A Medical Center, but you got me. I'm still new here & don't know where anything is at

There are lots of companies and employers but, looking back, you never mentioned what field you're looking in. That would help with the suggestions on companies.
Per Southeast Tucson though, it's Raytheon, Intuit and IBM. There are others.

No, sorry. The UA Career Track site includes university departments only. UMC is a separate entity so you have to go through them, although the College of Medicine and a slew of other departments have jobs based at the UMC site on campus, as well as the site on North Campbell.
UMC Employment
If you want medical, don't forget about Carondelet, Tucson Medical Center and the many other healthcare firms based here.

Also check Pima County and the City of Tucson. Always quite a few jobs open with them, they have good benefits, and it's typically very stable, although they're both in hiring freezes still for new jobs.

moving-to-AZ wanted to know:

> ... why is it so hard to find a job here in Tucson??

For most people, it's hard to find a job anywhere. Tucson is no different. It always sucks. It's always depressing. I know that there are some people who have not experienced that, but I haven't met them. I know lots of people who have experienced the depression and sucking.

> I have my resume posted on all the major sites ....

I did that once. Never again. I got so many responses for sales, insurance, work-at-home schemes that it wasn't worth it. I got nothing in my field.

sierraAZ

> IMO that's been always insane, never mind gas.

People do it, but yes, it's insane. At $4/gallon, it still costs less to fill a car than all the other costs such as insurance, depreciation, maintenance, etc cost.

The Tucson->Phoenix commute is similar to what lots and lots of people endure in the LA area and the Bay area and many places in the East Coast. There's no good reason for doing in in the West. None.

There is also the value of your time and stress. I place a high value on that.

I can't tell what field you are in and w/o specifiying that, it is hard to answer your question.

As a rule if you need to work for a living and you have a skillset specific to a career field as opposed to general skill set for just any low paying job ~ then you should consider the Phoenix metro area not Tucson.

Yes I was talking about the Medical Center. I've gone there for so much medical care and so many people there. Go down there and put in your resume. It is such a huge hospital. There has to be something or at least keep your resume on file.
