Advice about property management companies? (Tucson, Ajo: real estate, hoa, maintenance)

Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with renting from local rental agencies? I've been looking on craigslist for a house/townhouse/duplex close to UA to rent, and it seems like most of the postings are from Bancroft & Associates and other property management companies. What are some good companies to rent from? Any companies we should avoid?

Bancroft seems pretty good. You will be required to do maintenance and run if there is an HOA involved.

As a renter,
Avoid Prestige and Tower Realty.

I own a rental home in Tucson and I had MAJOR problems with both of these PM Companies.

I now self manage and like it so much better.

Tower left our tenants without A/C in 114 degree weather for 2 months...

When we finally found out, we fired them.

Do not even get me started about Prestige...

Avoid dealing with Peach Properties. Just horrible.

My PM company is currently Tucson's Choice. Great so far and really helpful. Their office is at 6885 N Oracle.

OUCH, Mugsy . . . 114 degree weather for two months in Tucson?

There must be another Tucson other than the one here in Southern Arizona.

As for the original question, Hasselhoff . . . I would recommend renting from the actual property owner and avoid a property management company, if possible.

I agree.
Renting from the owner/landlord can be a lot better.
The PM does not inform the property owner of problems like A/C unless it is over $300.00. In our case, the home has a warranty, so the PM never told us.
I had to google the tenants phone number and call them and work it out with them to stay in the rental.
