Default The Sideways "S" on my Windshield

So the car in front of me kicked a rock up at my windshield the other week. Apparenly the small rock was traveling at light speed because it was able to cause quite the crack on my windshield. Good thing the crack was small, toward the bottom of the windshield and kinda looked like a little star. awww. I can deal with this for a while- so I thought. I convinced myself it was actually kinda pretty.

Well. I come back from a business trip a week later. This innocent little star crack grew arms and became a gigantic sideways "S" that goes all the way from one side of the window to the other. THIS is NOT pretty. *sigh*

Anybody know the best place to get my windshield repaired?

Thanks!

Your better off to just get a new windshield. Those cracks continue to spread over time and it will only get worse.

Check out your insurance policy. You may have glass coverage.

A windshield is covered under "comprehensive" not collision. I haven't ever heard of a deductible that high for comp., usually $50-100 deductible. I just had my windshield replaced for $50.

Check for Diamond Glass. If they are in Tucson they are the most reasonable. The glass for my Dodge Caravan was only $220 installed without insurance and the windshield for my Porsche 944 is only $265. (the Porsche is a project car and uninsurred now. I accidently broke the windshield)

Yep this has happened to me a couple of times having a high insurance deductible, but if you look at the difference in premiums it's well worth the risk. The very most I paid was $320 after taxes for my 08 Toyota, so it should be less on an older vehicle. The Speedy quote was about 20% less than Safelite.

Anyways- for future reference if it's less than the size of a dollar bill it can be repaired and your insurance will pay for it regardless of deductible. Just get it done when it's the star next time.

Maybe insurance is different in Tucson? Changing my deductible from $250 to $500 would save me only $11/6mo. It's not worth it IMO. My rear bumper was scuffed in a parking lot and it was a $450 repair. All that was necessary was to repaint the bumper, there was no damage other than the paint being scraped. It only cost me the $250 deductible. One very minor insident makes the higher deductible not worth the little savings.

Still, a broken windshield should be covered under comprehensive not collision. Unless you don't have comprehensive coverage. It cost me $30 for 6 mo. coverage with $50 deductable. This covers things like windows, hail damage, damage from a tree branch falling on it, vandalism, etc. It is easily paid for with 1 windshield.
