Default Need Opinions on these places

Hey it looks like im relocating to Tucson to work at Raytheon. I've been checking out a couple places and need some advice. I am planning on renting. I am currently 24 and single so please keep that in mind. The key things im worried about are 1. Location(to work and to fun) 2. crime 3. how nice the places are.

So these are some of the places I've been considering

1. [url="http://www.villastucson.com"[/URL]
2550 E. River Rd

2. http://www.finisterraluxuryrentals.com
6795 East Calle La Paz,

3. http://tucson.craigslist.org/apa/771840875.html
1077 N. Riverside

4. http://www.uofaproperty.com/
Icehouse loft

Any other suggestions

Thanks for the help. I really appeciate it.

I'd say if I had to choose between the three I'd select #1 or #2, I like the River/Campbell area and also NE, but those are personal preferences.

The last one is right next to I-10 so you'll have a much higher traffic flow, not to mention the freeway construction that is here till 2010 (at least).

There are links to crime resources all over this forum, just search for them.

As far as distance, it depends on with Raytheon site you'll be working at. If its the Airport site the NE location will definitely be a jaunt, I'd estimate 40min easy. If you're at Rita Road, it would only be 20min or so.

Good choices, mbhaddad.

As Michael posted . . . in order to make the best choice, we should know which Raytheon since commuting in Tucson can be a little !

Good Luck

I believe I will be working at the far location.

1151 E Hermans Rd
Tucson, AZ 85706

Right now i'm really liking the finisterra apartments in terms of price/size and location. But its reviews arn't looking so good on aparmentrating.com. Its says 31% recommend this property. I'm not sure how baised apartmentratings.com is. I haven't seen anything over 40 percent. Does anyone have any experience with this apartment complex?

I'm never sure how much to trust those sites, I would think the only reason you would search out a site like that to post feedback on was if you had a bad experience; how many positive reviews are not being posted?

The area is pretty handy if you ask me, you're near shopping (Albertson's, Costco, Walmart), a Lowe's, a Hospital (TMC), several restaurants, and entertainment.

If you have time I'd suggest a visit there, and timing a trip from Raytheon while you're at it.

I doubt you'll see better ratings for any place...

Great central location - Speedway & Wilmot. Lots or stores, restaurants, coffee shops within walking distance. It's tucked in away from the streets, so it ought to be quiet.

Used to be an apartment complex and was converted to condos recently. Pretty high-end looking inside.

El Dorado Condos - Tucson - Tucson AZ Real Estate

I work and live within a mile of Finisterra Apts., which are fairly new and look very nice. Having said that, there are a number of negatives that I know of. The road in front of the apts.(Kolb Rd.) is a busy road. Due to the traffic and speeding motorists, it sometimes sounds like the Indy 500. In fact, it's a favorite spot for the motorcycle cops to catch speeders. If you live in the front of the complex you will definitely hear the noise. Also, behind those really nice apts., on Calle La Paz, is a large complex of old townhomes that look like a ghetto. On numerous occasions, I've heard gunshots(sometimes a series of) coming from over there. Lots of nefarious activity going on at those townhomes. The residents are comprised of druggies, thieves, etc. I know this for fact, because one of the residents recently broke into my place of business. Among the things he stole was a computer. When the cops caught him he had everything he needed to make driver's licenses, social security cards, etc., and start stealing identities and committing fraud. I live just south of Finisterra in a nice, older established neighborhood. Our cars are constantly getting broken into. Houses too! I've watched people walking through our neighborhood, that look like they just don't belong here. Inevitably, they head back to those ghetto townhomes. My convertible top was cut open, but there was nothing inside to steal. Not sure what they were looking for. Stuff to steal and sell/pawn, I guess. Druggies! One neighbor had his golf clubs stolen out of his truck when he went back inside for something. Another neighbor came home to find someone in his garage(had not figured how to get in his house yet). I didn't say they were smart criminals. Those two incidents happened in broad daylight. But, a lot of the burglaries occur in the middle of the night. Almost everyone on my street has bought a gun, if they didn't already own one. A couple of guys installed surveillance equipment, and one older, retired man sleeps up on his roof with his dog every so often. One of these days they are going to catch some of these lowlifes. They better hope the cops catch them first.

Default Don't move here

First of all, there is no fun in Tucson.. where are you living now? Living by "fun" in non existent. I originally lived at River and Thornydale and quickly realized I wanted to move as far out as possible so I moved to Sahuarita, which is where I would refer you to if you were buying.. but renting... wherever. This town sucks so bad that it really doesn't matter where you live. My company moved me here a year and a half ago- moved 4 of us. We were all from different parts of the country- Texas, Tennessee, Florida, and L.A. and we all had one HUGE thing in common after moving here, we are all desperately trying to leave....
