Relocating in March- Crime? (Tucson, Oro Valley: apartment complex, to rent, house)

I have been looking to rent a house for the last 2 mos. It seems that whenever I find one I like someone tells me "it's right by the ghetto". I'm looking west of I10. I found two homes I really like- one off Silverbell between Grant and Columbus park.. and another one on a mountain off of Bella and Silverbell. Some ppl tell me to move Central, some say Oro Valley, some say foothills.. I'm so confused. I don't want to be robbed at gunpoint in the middle of the day! lol. If you live west of I10 can you bike into town? Please, tell me if these two locations are safe. I have to rent sight unseen! Thanks so much for the advice! Also, is the traffic bad driving to the Tucson Automall (its near the Tucson mall) That is where I will be commuting to work.

If you're biking to Tucson Auto Mall to work, why not look at renting near there?
There's a decent apartment complex at River Rd & LaCanada only a couple miles from your work.
I know folks who live there with no complaints.
Do a google search for them: you'll probably find a decent map for them,
as well as ratings & comments from others:
