Default It's official

We are moving to Tucson. Finally we can call AZ our home. Hubby has been interviewing for weeks now with different companies in Phoenix and out of the blue this one in Tucson hit. He interviewed in the AM and had an offer in the PM! Must be fate!

So, we are looking for a home to rent in the Catalina Foothills - mainly because I hear the schools are so good and we have 3 in elementary school. I also heard Vail is good, but then got conflicting info on how all of S & SW Tucson should be avoided.... so I guess we will stick with Catalina Foothills.

Can anyone recommend neighborhoods to us? We want somewhere with an active community.

Thanks!

Erin in MI

As far as the Schools go, the first big favor you can do is stay out of the TUSD(1) school district. If you like the foothills, move a little west - get into the town of Marana if possible. They have a decent school district. Catalina Foothills SD is okay also.

Vail should not be a problem either. Vail proper is actually a ways South East, not a bad area, very rural though

Vail is not south or southwest. Vail is very east of tucson. If you like to live more in the city then the foothills will be for you.If you prefer to live more rural then vail is for you.Or even more rural is corona de tucson.

Vail also has a great school district. From what I've heard.

Granted, Erin . . . school quality should be a consideration, however, your husband's place of employment should be a major consideration as well.

Commuting in Tucson is a booger to put it mildly. If his employment is on the South or Southeast , Marana or many parts of The Foothills could be a mini-nightmare. The same would apply for Vail if his employment is in Marana or Oro Valley.

Good Luck

I drive from the East Side to Marana, then back every day for work. I can confirm this is a pain in the bum.

Are you talking about how the traffic slows down to 15MPH when it starts to sprinkle a little?

You guys are so funny!

He will be working by the airport. So I guess we should look for places other than the foothills huh? We have only ever lived in the metro Detroit area, so we have no idea what rural would even be like? We really love the mountains though, and are loving the foothills homes we have seen! I guess I better check out Vail too.

The airport huh. I would recommend looking for a place in either Vail or Rita Ranch, he could either hit the freeway or take Valencia Road to and from work - it would not be too bad at all. I would not recommend finding a place by the Air Port however.
