Default Good barbeque

Where are the good bbq joints in this town. I haven't been impressed with any of the ones I've tried so far.

Tough one, bellringer . . .

Have you tried Famous Daves near The Tucson Mall?

Famous Dave's

Not one of my favorites but they seem to be very popular.

Thanks! I haven't tried Famous Dave's. What didn't you like about the place/food?

Yes that's true. I went for the first time a few months ago and I wasn't very impressed, actually I was a bit nonplussed after I left because of all the good things I had heard about it.

When I'm craving BBQ I head over to Lil Abners, their ribs always hit the spot.

I am in Montana (a culinary wasteland for sure), I also love real BBQ. I went to famous Daves twice.
Remember the saying, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" ? Famous Daves is really bad BBQ ! I've had worse though. The best BBQ joints are shacks with no fancy whatsoever and if the guy running the smoker isn't Black I wont be back ! These real BBQ joints are only found in a few southern states and Arizona isn't among them.

Not so much a "didn't like" as it was more a "I've had better" type of thing, bellringer.

Michael's recommendation is better but I would consider Lil Abners to be more of a funky or rustic Steak House, very similar to Shooters, rather than a BBQ Joint.

Rickers is absolutely correct about the Deep South requirement and, Thankfully or Regrettably, Tucson does not fall into that category . . . NOT EVEN CLOSE.

Very true, it's more of a steakhouse. I think I just mentally have it categorized as a BBQ place because I haven't found anything else that blows my socks off!

I'm from Texas and have lived in Tucson for 10 years and the only place I would consider to have good BBQ is Lil Abners or whatever you cook up in your backyard. BBQ restraunt chains don't do it for me, but I do enjoy Taste of Texas and Texas Roadhouse on occassion.

Thanks everyone! Limited-What part of Texas? I'm from San Antonio and I don't think they had any bad bbq joints, just good and excellent. Even the chain Bill Miller's BBQ was good. The Mexican food was off the charts also. Eggs are also better in Texas. Have you noticed that Limited? I wonder why?
