Hey Ryan,

I definitely recommend coming for a visit to Tucson and doing a little scoping out of your own. You already know it a bit going to school here, so you should have a leg up on knowing where decent neighborhoods are.

Tucson is not for everybody, thus why you see so many conflicting opinions

Actually, it's not thad bad all over the East and SE. Only 85715 and 85710 are at 9.7 and 9.9 months. 85748 is at 6.2, 85730 is 7.7, 85747 is at 7.9 months. The really "bad" one is 85641 which is at 14.1 months, but you have to figure there is so much new construction still going on in that area.

Those are my latest figures based on October MLS. The biggest jump was in 85730. September's numbers showed it at 3.9 months.

48's pretty good, but mine (47) doesn't look that hot - about 2 months more.

30 really surprised me, too. What's the deal with that? Granted, these are established neighborhoods for the most part, but it still sounds odd. Perhaps a mistake?

Hey ryan,

I too am stuck in the Pac NW (Seattle) and I too am working on leaving for all the reasons you mentioned. I totally "get it" especially about the weather and the people. They can have the green and trees. It's not all that. I used to live in Phoenix. SOrry, don't know much about Tuscon. I moved here from Texas and I'm planning to either return there or move a bit closer to family in the Midwest. Either way will be a huge improvement from the hellhole of Seattle, where it looks like everyone dresses from their clothes hamper.

Take care

Well, I'm here in Seattle (and have been for a longgggggg time (since 1974)) - and indeed probably look like I wear clothes from my hamper (actually I HAVE from time time - but then again I'm an old f*rt so I don't care what I look like most of the time)). Personally, in a LOT of ways I think Seattle is a great place (and actually like the people) - BUT there is no doubt, for folks that like the sun, Seattle weather s*cks - hence our eventual move to SE Arizona.

Default Tucson summed up

If you have money Tucson is and excellent place to live. The best place to live would be the North Catalina Foothills, Oro Valley, and Vail. It will feel like you are on vacation. If not Tucsons wage is low and is difficult to make a living here. Most people are making 9 to 15 dollars an hour and are struggling which makes it not a happy place. The job market is not very good for the 20 and hour and up range. If you are a professional or have a good paying job and some stability Tucson is a good place. Crime is fairly high in cenral and south parts of town and much of it looks questionable. The weather is great and sunny from October into May. May through September is hot about 100 each day. Usually does not get much hotter than that. So do all your outdoor yard work and activities extremely early or wait until October through April. One thing about Tucson is it cools off at night. I usually get tired of the heat in August. The desert is unique here and you either like it or not, or you get it or not. It has great outdoor activities and for the sports orientated. The traffic is getting heavy as there are no freeways and all stop lights. Tucson is spread out so usually you stay closer to what part of town you live and work. Most of teh jobs are towards the South and the best place to live is in teh North. There is also more remote living available on the outskirts and beyond if you are into that. I would also recommend a pool for those summer months. Expect to pay 200-250K for and okay house in town and in the new developments and really starting at 400K and up for homes in the best parts such as the Catalina Foothills to the North, North-East, North-West. Oro Valley is nice but failry far North-West, Vail is even farther towards the South-East and more newer, and some of the hilly areas to the far West and East which are at the end of town.
