Job moving me to Nogales, need help ASAP
Hi people...I just found out that I will be getting moved to Nogales for work, well actually, the jov is in Nogales, but I can live anywhere obviously...I need some help in regards to a good place to live...I am single, 29 yrs old, no kids, I don't want to live too close to the border for obvious reasons, however I don't want to be driving 2 hours to work either, I am looking to rent, preferrably a house ($800-$1000)...I will have a car from work with free gas which is pretty sweet...as I said any insight about the surrounding areas will be nice...So far I have been told that Green Valley is my best bet...I have looked at other peoples research and Green Valley is good...I just need as many other ideas as possible, and if Green Valley is the only descent place within a reasonable driving distance, so be it....
Thanks in advance for all the responses...

LOL, Green Valley is a retirement community. I highly doubt you'd like it. The areas of Tucson close to I-19 are not the best for the most part. Rancho Sahuarita is an option, unless you mind living around Stepford Wives (it has a bit of a bizarre "family" feeling to it)... However, for you it'd be just a safe and nice bedroom community and in your free time you could enjoy the amenities of Tucson. Yeah, living in Nogales wouldn't be much fun. I suppose you'd be working for Border Patrol. You're young, don't mind a lot of driving obviously, and gas is free... so you can live anywhere... Somewhere close to I-10 works, too (and then you get on I-19).

I don't work for Border Patrol....I understand you said somewhere close to I-10 works, but I need names of towns that are relatively safe and close to beautiful sunny Nogales.

I'm gonna agree with Sierra on this one, IZZYJOE . . .
Green Valley is really not for a 29 year old. Heck, I doubt if many 49 or a 59 year olds would feel comfortable there. Sahuarita is a possibility but a little too planned and too bedroomy for me.
There's just not an awful lot between Tucson and Nogales except maybe Rio Rico or Tubac.
Good Luck

Interesting...what is the difference between Rancho Sahuarita, & East Sahuarita? Sahuarita it will be then..what are the ups and downs of this part of the state? What are the nice areas for someone in my age range that will provide for night life, outdoor activities...social life....?

There isn't really... I'm not sure how long of a drive you're willing to put up with. You can live in Sierra Vista, but it's not that much fun, either. There is a back road to Nogales, shooting off of I-10 between Tucson and Benson. I took it fairly recently from where I live (Southeast Tucson; 6 miles N of I-10) and I made it in an hour and 15 min. to Patagonia, so about 1 1/2 hours to Nogales. It's a winding 2-lane road, though...

The little boring town of Sahuarita has existed for a long time - Sahuarita, Arizona - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Rancho Sahuarita is a fairly new master-planned community with all the amenities - lakes, pools, parks, etc.

There's no night life and probably not a whole lot of social life there for a single young guy. In the evenings and on the weekends you have to come to Tucson.

If you rent a house you better make sure it's not going into a foreclosure in a couple of weeks...
To tell you the truth, there isn't an enormous difference between living/aka sleeping in Rancho Sahuarita and Green Valley. Green Valley may be a better compromise and perhaps less expensive... At least they have enough stores around whereas the Rancho just recently got one shopping center.

All of the above info sure sounds right to me as well. Nice work helping out a young man looking for a tough residence, guys!
Good luck to you, IzzyJoe!
