West Tucson?
Hi Everyone-
I'll be moving to Tucson in April but have never been to Tucson. Consequently, I have no idea where to move other than a place near work ( At Commerce Park Loop Just West of Highway 10). I'm navigating Craigslist for housing! Is West of the Highway 10 an okay part of town? Specifically Anklam Road at Greasewood? Its just by Pima Community College, so I would assume, maybe?
Thanks for any help!

Anklam and Greasewood should be fine. Anywhere between Silverbell and the freeway should be avoided.

Those are good apartments and the scenery around there is beautiful.
However, there are a lot of college students living there. Plenty of parties. That can be good or bad.

I live in Sahuarita and work on the NW side of town. Tucson is small and even my "very far" commute only takes 30 minutes. Choose an area you would like to live in. Don't choose an area to be close to work. Give me a list of things you like to do and I'll point you in the right direction.

Good advice, Ashmatical . . . within reason.
Living on the Northwest and working way down on the Southeast, or vice versa, could be a nightmare.
While working, I commuted from near the Tucson Mall to the Airport area and because of my "off hours" it wasn't too bad. However, if I had been forced to work standard 8 to 4 or 9 to 5 it could have taken me upwards to an hour each way. Commutes like that can grow old super fast.

Hey I'm very interested about this post, cause I was thinking of buying a house on anklam rd, but this is also my main concern, I do not know if it is a good place to live,

What does IFFY mean Bummer? and you should be able to do better?
I have no problem with lots of college students living nearby as I am a college student myself, but I'm concerned about security, having good neighbors and well living in a nice place overall. I found a small house which seems very nice. But I would like to know all the details becuase I can't find any reviews about living in that area. Thanx for your help any info is really appreciated.

When I relocated to Tucson about a dozen years ago, I quickly noticed a unique characteristic in housing . . . a "perfect in every way" home is frequently located within walking distance of a borderline dump.
As far as living in a college student environment . . . not a problem if you are a college student. However, living next door to a "party house" while living a conservative lifestyle (trying to sleep and/or concentrate at relatively normal hours) as well as not being invited to the parties grows old very fast.
When I was in school many years ago, living among students was my first choice but not now.
I hope all this makes sense, avd.

Interesting post. I check this forum from time to time and people on this board are always complaining about the traffic in Tucson, while I've never been there to see, it just seems like a joke. People talk about long commutes, have any of you guys been to Socal, It is so physically large and the traffic is horrendous.
I had to go about 35 or 40 miles a few weeks ago and it took 2.5 hours. I'm sure it couldn't be that bad in Tucson.
So I'd go with the poster here that says choose and area you'd like to live in.

Just because PCC is there, does not mean it is a college area. There are many PCC campuses in and around Tucson, mostly to work around the schedules of working adults. U of A has the college kids and surrounding business meant for that. Tucson is very funny, as one or two streets away the community goes from best ever to worst crime rate. You can't make general statements about communities here, like you can about NYC and it's suburbs (Stay away from Harlem or whatever. I don't know I've never lived outside the southwest The best thing to do is to visit the Tucson area before making any final decisions, and then drive a 5 mile radius around the area. If you find that that cute little subdivision that is so family friendly backs up to the state pen, and landfill, you might be changing your mind pretty fast. See if you can even do that with google maps? Might take some time, but you can see a LOT of things quickly
