University of Arizona
I was thinking about transfering colleges, and I was looking into the University of Arizona. I was wondering how people have liked going there, and living in Tucson in general. I was also wondering how strong their Communications program was, and if there is alot of descent affordable apartments to rent around the campus. I would be coming from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks which is probably one of the coldest windiest places in the U.S. Just looking for a change, and was wondering about peoples thoughts and experiences going to the U of A.

Besides Astronomy, Optical Sciences, and Nursing, it is a pretty terrible school...and it is going to get worse with the budget, department, and college cuts that the University will be making. Keep in mind that overall education in Arizona ranks 49th in the nation.
If warm weather is what you are looking for, look towards CA or NC. Keep in mind what it is that you want to study so that you go to a school that is good at your particular subject.

What do you mean by look towards California or North Carolina if you want warm weather? Tucson is just as warm as California in the winter and warmer than North Carolina.

I think the poster means if you want warm weather and a quality education, California and North Carolina are the states to look at.

Loved it there. Great weather, great scenery close by, great campus. The only bad thing is traffic and finding a place to live close to campus.

I don't think that citing rankings of K-12 spending is necessarily a good argument to make against the University...
You brought up three great departments, but are certainly selling the school short. I can name a dozen other excellent programs, and that's just within Medicine. Why such negativity psulions?
Your name does obviously betray some bias.
Florida, Georgia, Alabama all have good schools that I am aware of, not to mention Texas-and even New Mexico for some thngs. I do agree with you that it often depends on the subject/department, and of course while these places all may have sun and nice winters, the cultures in and outside the schools differ by a wide margin.

FL, GA, AL, TX, and NM have schools that are good at some things, but they are more specialized...I didn't mention them because in CA and NC, there is a 95% chance that there is a school with a good program in whatever the OP is interested in.

The Regional Development (Urban Planning) department was strong when I graduated there in 1998. It had all classes actually being taught by professors, with none "subbed in" with assistants...I don't know if that department has declined...I certainly hope not.

It's an unbelievable college experience. I attended the UofA from 1995 until 1998, and loved every minute of it. The campus itself is compact, and gorgeous. The weather is pristine and perfect during the winter--highs in the 60s and 70s most of the time. Summer of course, is super hot, with highs in the low-to-mid 100s in July and August. I loved the heat though, so this wasn't an issue really for me.
Life around the campus and surrounding it is classic college life. It's a great place to make friends, join activities, and learn more about your major.
Quick, weekend and spring break trips to Mexico are the norm, and the beaches there are gorgeous.
It's a great experience and wonderful college city.

Mid-100's? Like... 150? That sounds like someplace on the planet Mercury!
Hoo-wee! Hot! Hot! Hot!
