Need suggestion for electronics/computer store (Phoenix, Tucson: home, buying, to live)

We've lived in Phoenix and Las Vegas and we were in geek heaven with the Fry's Electronic's chain located in both of those cities. Is there anything somewhat like that store in Tucson besides Best Buy or Radio Shack?? Or do we have to do mail order.

Looking mainly for computer parts (as in buying parts to be able to build our own computer).

The biggest thing in Tucson is SWS, otherwise, it's mail order.

I will make the drive to Phoenix occasionally and load up on stuff at Fry's. Nothing in Tucson comparable. SWS is the next best thing here as stated before. I have also used the Fry's mail order system and have been happy with them, even on returns.

I just bought a refurbished computer online from TigerDirect (arrived yesterday). First time I've had Vista.

I have the vexing issue of everything on the page loading up too small. I know you can change the resolution and make things bigger, but then they get bigger and blurrier.

By doing <CTL> + <+> you can upsize everything. These are really half-arsed solutions and workarounds. Makes things bigger and easier to read, but they still don't look right.

Anybody else experience this with Vista? I had heard that it sucks, and I have issues on day one.

Been scouring the net to try to find a known solution.

There was a retail outlet for TigerDirect where I used to live, which is how I knew about it. Their prices are very reasonable if you can put up with waiting for your stuff to arrive via mail (took less than a week to arrive).

Hiker Man! Nice lookin' "vehicle" you bought there! Looks pretty close to the one I have (black)! We continue to have our computers built by Computer Medix (formerly Renaissance Computers), owned by Dr Dan up in Flagstaff, and we use them for all of our major computer needs. He's an ex-New York "bustin' my chops" kinda guy. Very knowledgable dude; tells it like it is.

TigerDirect is used by some IT people I know, and they swear by it. Vista continues to be a problem for many users, but it may have come with your package (?). I use Windows XP, und es is sehr gut, meine Herr!

Thanks, ZP. It's totally not a major issue, 'cause I can still read things just fine. More an annoyance, as things ought to be perfect when you first buy something.

Wondering if it may have something to do with having a 64 bit processor and some web pages being designed for 32 bit.

Who knows? It's beyond my pay grade All I know is that I have the same monitor that I used with my old dinosaur PC (which used XP) and the screens were painted just right.

I agree that things should be as perfect as possible when new. Whenever I experience something beyond my level of expertise (computers, software), I will defer and refer to Dr Dan, the computer man. Sure wish he made "house calls", though...

Have you checked your display resolution? You may need to "downgrade" it to make everything bigger. I had to do a little tweaking on my mom's new laptop which came with Vista.

Alternately, and more complicated, you can wipe the computer and start with a fresh XP install.

I'm still running XP, and that's the way I like it.
