Tax refund question
How many days does it take for your refund to be direct deposited after you e-file? I know they say 10 days, but is that business days? I seem to remember one year that my refund was in my account only three or four days after I e-filed.

If you are talking Arizona state taxes (and I assume you are, I don't think the feds have ever been that quick, and state has done it within 5 business days in the past), I think 10 days, even 10 business days, is not likely this year, based on what I've heard from a few people who filed earlier. I'd assume it will take longer than that.
Az Dept of Revenue laid off around 200 people, I forget the exact number, so everything is taking longer to process. . . a human still has to process the e-filings, though it's much faster than paper. If you filed right around the 15th, it might actually take a little longer due to volume.
You can go to www.aztaxes.gov to check on your refund status.
Thanks to a computer program glitch, I had to file a PAPER amended return. I won't see money from either fed or state before June, probably.

When I have been so lucky . . . it has always been just a few days, definitely not as many as ten.

That's been the case in the past, but I would allow for ten working days this year. I've been at the ADOR -- you can tell, even in the limited public areas, that they are short of staff. Actually talk to someone there, and they will tell you how bad it is.
They saved 3.8 million with the layoffs, but since a large chunk of those layoffs was in the collections dept, and the DOR is about the only state agency that can GENERATE significant money (largely through that dept), that sure did make a lot of sense, didn't it????

That's good news. It may be a little longer for mid April filers with the volume of filings.
Wish mine had worked. . . .

Best news I've heard all day. I'm waiting on an amended return, already, so I know mine will be processed after all the initial returns, but so far, so good.
