So by "North Side" are you now referring to the small gated community you live in?
Seriously, the so called "good" side of town keeps getting smaller, defined so by the few people who live there.

You call Cleveland and Detroit cities? I thought they'd be under the category of Dumps!
Tucson has a beauty of its own, and it is certainly one of most beautiful cities in the southwest. I'd definitely take it over any of the cities you mentioned. Yes it does have its ugly parts, but it's certainly nowhere as bad as the bad parts of the big cities you mentioned, especially Detroit or Cleveland!

Tucson doesn't look good as compared to ( I can only speak for ) Cleveland? Have you seen Cleveland? Have you driven through the ghettos? Have you counted the borded up drug houses? You can't possibly be serious. It's like comparing a rose to a t*rd....LOL
They are not even in the same category. If you compare economy, housing, crime, weather, air quality, unemployment....Tucson comes out on top everytime. With all the issues Tucson has, it is a much better place to live than that forsaken he*l hole.

I lived out in Tucson for a little bit, in the NW area and worked in Oro Valley which I loved! I found the whole area to be lovely and liked it out there. It was most def a massive change from Fl.!

Hahaha. "Freaky people walking down dirt roads, cotton fields, and Indian Reservations??" You make Tucson sound like the setting for a Western that you would see on TNT.
I'm surprised there weren't gun battles at high noon.

deciding on Tucson
Wow, I was getting really down reading all the negative things people are writing on this forum about Tucson..I've never been there, but am considering a relocation there. I really appreciate your perspective (that we all have perspectives!) I will definitely plan a vacation visit. Thanks for sharing your view

I grew up (at least a few years of my childhood) back in the late 60s. I loved it back then and always held good memories of it. I know it has changed drastically since that time, but with infrequent visits back to Tucson still has that same general feeling I once knew as a kid.
To me, it seems there are a lot more positives of living there than negatives. The weather, even though it may be hot in the summer, and unpleasantly humid and hot during the monsoon season, it is still better to have four months unpleasant and eight months of fantastic weather as opposed to four months decent and eight months unpleasant where I live now (Seattle).
I guess it's what you like for entertainment, but when I read about people thinking there's nothing to do there, it's just amazing to me. The desert walks, the mountains, the culture all seem to me to equate to lots of things to do. In fact, we're hoping to retire there in five years.

I completely disagree I lived just outside Detroit and went to Cleveland all the time. I'll walk around any part of there before I go drive in South Tucson. Also the parks and shorelines are great in both of those cities as well as a much better culture (or multitude of cultures) here its 1 culture southwest/hispanic, and thats it. You can enjoy the outdoors more of the year (November-April here before the sun starts killing things and March-November there before it gets a little too cold) and if you wear a coat, the outdoors there won't kill you like it will here.
I go hiking regularly in the mountains and I'll happily trade that to be able to go out with a kayak on Lake Erie or Lake Huron whenever I like.
Oh yeah Detroit and Cleveland won't ever run out of water..... common sense, that is also more beautiful.
Alas all the retirees move down here to suck a few more years out of their lives and I'm stuck here because of the economy. So I will complain.
