How sad it has been for me to read through this thread.
I lived in Tucson from 1980-1984. I was young, early teens when I left, and i was a student in the Sunnyside School District. I lived as far south in Tucson as you can get (still), across the street from my house was the San Xavier Reservation (Los Reales Road).
My neighborhood wasn't the best, but it certainly wasn't ghetto. It was pretty diverse, lots of Mexicans, Native Americans, Whites. We had moved to Tucson from Chicago to get me away from the gangs up here and also to get me into a better school disctrict. We succeeded, Sunnyside was nicer at the time than the CPSD. The crappy SD at the time down there was TUSD.
Anyway, apparently, the neighborhood where I lived (Los Reales Road & 12th - 85706) isn't so hot anymore? Based on what I've been reading it's pretty much totally ghetto these days Just makes me sad to hear that. Maybe some day I'll come back to visit, but I guess I won't be taking any trips down memory lane in my old neighborhood.

Yeah, I understand that. I was bored the other night and did a virtual walk in my old 'hood using Google Streetview, and while it didn't look as decent as it used to, it wasn't horrible, either. Just seemed to be a lot of Mexican-theme stuff (Virgin Marys painted in green red and white on one of the houses down the street from where I used to live, stuff like that) and I know that the house prices have not going up much since we were there (maybe $30k in 25 years...not a big increase at all compared to other parts of the country). The other big thing is that every single house seems to have a fence around the front yard. This happened in Chicago, too, and it saddens me. I dunno, seems like everyone is just isolating themselves from everyone else. Sad

why do you think that is? think about it. ghetto people cause this. but they arent the problem. the problem is the govt allowing them to come in at all.

Oh, for God sake.
Did it ever occur to you that, unless you are a Native American, you or your family was once one of "those" people?
Every single great-grand relative I had was an immigrant to this country, didn't speak the language, brought their own customs, food and habits here, and by doing so *made* me an American because I happened to be born here. If the government hadn't "allowed" them here, I wouldn't *be* an American.
And, if you are like everyone else in this country who had greats or grands that immigrated to America, neither would you. So get the hell off your high horse before you fall off and hurt yourself.

I've lived a few streets up from Los Reales off/on since 1986. I've watched this neighborhood go downhill fast. I'm currently living in the same house as I did in 1986. Southside Posse Bloods hang out on the corner 2 houses down from my house. We hear gunshots on a nightly basis. I have to drive my daughter to her friends house down the street because The guys on the corner call her to come over there and she's only 11. The cops never do anything when you call them. If you do call then the gang members retaliate by vandalizing your car, stealing your car, vandalizing your house, shooting your dog, or even doing a drive by on your house.
I have personally had my cars broken into/vandalized numerous times (as recent as this past weekend), my back yard set on fire, my house vandalized; They have even gone so far as to break into my house to get the keys and steal my car, just to take it to the desert and torch it.
They did this because my dad was always calling the cops when he heard gunfire, painting over the neighborhood grafitti. He just did what he thought was right, and we were "punished" for it. I've briefly lived in the various different areas of town and found that unless you're able to pay a lot of money for a house on the rich gated areas of town, then you're doomed to having to deal with this crazy ghettoville we call Tucson.

that's just absolutely not true. maybe the story you read said arizona? tucson nor phoenix are that bad on a national level. st. louis? gary? philly? baltimore? hell, even tiny wilmington delaware has worse crime statistics. come visit literally any city on the east coast, or drive around the ghetto of kansas city or cleveland, and then count your blessings that you live in tucson.
