WHOA!
While I've seen what tornadoes can do while living in both Michigan and North Dakota, I've never seen a funnel itself.

Must have been a pretty frightening experience - though I DO understand their almost hypnotic attraction for people. There is a strange sort of horrific beauty in their motion.

Really?! I moved here at the beginning of '97. I must've scared the tornados away and saved everybody!

Seriously, I find this data hard to believe...

That must be the answer.

I've seen some funnel clouds, but they've never made contact with the ground.

I ain't never seen NO tornadoEs... I ain't never felt NO earthquakes... and I ain't never been around NO hurricanes...

Also... I ain't ever seen me but one rattlesnake... I ain't never seen me but one scorpion... and, I've only seen the Grand Canyon once or twice... EVER!

That don't make me NO bad person, do it? However, it DO make me a typical longtime Arizonan!

LOL. Yeah, I've neither seen nor heard of tornadoes since I've been here either. Hey, don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger.

It's not something I sweat, that's for sure.

Here's where I first stumbled across evidence of tornadoes in AZ (a year or so ago on Youtube):

YouTube - Funnel Cloud in Sierra Vista, AZ, 3-Aug-2007, 13:45

To the OP - as you can see by responses here - they are so rare that almost no has heard of one.
Apparently the DO exist though - from time to time on very rare occasions.

I can't believe you've lived here your whole life and only seen one rattler. Amazing. Gotta get out and hike a little, ZP.

I've never seen a rattler! Just the skin of one was shown to me once. Admittedly, I don't hike; however, I have lived in the outskirts of town.

Well, there are certainly plenty of dust devils. We saw several in one day driving from Las Vegas to Flagstaff - one of the VERY VERY TALL.
