Ha, I didn't know that:

The small town of Why is named for the Y-shaped junction of highways 85 and 86

Why Arizona travel and tourism guide

I still like my guess better - why, oh, why, are you there?

Yeah... state law was/is such that no town in Arizona can have less than three letters in its name... so, they renamed "Y" WHY!

Ain't that grand? Don't you just LOVE Arizona even more now?

As I already said, it's a whole lot more appropriate now!

Btw, some sources list it as a "community" or a "populated place" . A few buildings hardly qualify as a "town"...

And its neighbor Ajo - another one of my fave names! I happen to know what it means because if I go off the beaten path in Mexico I have to make sure I don't get any ajo or sebolla in my food!

And I make sure I know harina tortilla as I hate corn tortillas. It may not be grammatically correct, but it gets the job done.

See, I made this easy for myself, I just don't go down there. Then I can get away with not having to know.

Sure. Some people don't care for beautiful beaches and resorts.
