Default 'WHY' what?

We were driving around today and stopped at this Copper Country junk pantry that promised to wow us (we were a little less than wowed by the prohibitively - and often ridiculously - high prices on their myriad of lovely junk).

As we were leaving, we noticed that along the side of the building, the word 'WHY' was painted. It was also painted on the passenger side front windscreen of a truck by the loading bays.

There's no explanation. Just this big question demanding an answer.

So, what's up? Does anyone know?

I am sure people ask them "why?" a lot.

They used to have a chrome plated buffalo and a giant rooster outfront of the store

The buffalo is on the roof now - it has little white (or gold - I can't remember) wings.

That is a different Buffalo. It was on the roof while this shiny one was on the ground.

Over the course of the last few years they've had quite a few different buffalo in the parking lot and on the roof.

Oh! I also wanted to mention: I went in that store for the first time last weekend. I was not impressed at all - and it smelled funny.

No idea why someone would dare paint the word WHY on any building or vehicle...

However, there is a small town named WHY near Ajo, AZ (far western end of Pima County)... and, whether or not this business' particular WHY is related to THAT WHY, who would know except perhaps the proprietor?

I'm guessing we need to amble on over and ask WHY (?)!

I nominate you, Zony, to march in there, slam your fist on the table and demand an answer.

While you're there, please purchase the life-size, cast iron javelina statue in the front for me. It's only $400-something, but my husband didn't see the perceived value of it. Spanks a bunch.

This name is particularly becoming!

Why was this place ever populated?
Why did it ever become a town?

Really, besides gassing up and getting some drinks and snacks on the way to Rocky Point (which you can easily do in Lukeville), what purpose does this place serve?! Is there anything else to it other than the few stores at the intersection anyway?
