Default Oro Valley is Wonderful

Hi:

I live in Oro Valley (for past 8 years) just minutes north of Tucson. There are comments on the forum about real estate being high in Oro Valley; I believe there are many reasonable home prices here. I am in Rancho Vistoso (where I understand Tiger Woods will be playing golf when he builds his house at Dove Mountain). There are still great deals on homes here. My husband and I joke that the ratio of Oro Valley policemen to residents is 1:1. Very safe, wonderful place to raise a family. Oro Valley is really growing and our home value has doubled during the 8 years we've been here. That is amazing by any standards. Our relator was a relocation specialist and he literally wouldn't show us houses anywhere else.

My kids went to Catholic schools here as well. Immaculate Heart School is off of Magee Road and has grades K-12. Great high school--they just won their second Academic Decathlon in 3 years. It is a smaller school - kids don't get lost in the crowd like at larger schools. College prep curriculum is great. They just received a $1M donation from the parents of a former student that they plan to use to upgrade technology and facilities. It is in a beautiful location as well...just at the base of the Catalina Mountains. The school website is: www.immaculateheartschool.com.

My problem with an area like Vail is the location...too far away from everything. Problem with Tucson is that the houses are high for what you get compared to Oro Valley. I really don't go into Tucson much any more; we have it all here. New YMCA, new campus for the local Community College (Pima CC), good schools, churches, shopping, etc.

I have been in Tucson for apx 2 years and have decided to move back east
Tucson is definitly overated as a city and a quality place to live.
Rents are going through the roof.
A critical water shortage problem is predicted withen the next several years
I wish you luck on your move here
But I do not think that Tucson is that great.

I'm so jealous of anyone living in Tucson. Wish I could go back, but hubby doesn't want to go back there....he likes green grass. LOL.

I love & miss Tucson!
