I live in Denver--much bigger town, much more crime (of course, more people as well.)
I know moving to Arizona is going to be a huge adjustment for me, but can someone tell me something GOOD to look forward to? I know I have a brutal summer ahead. But can we stop all the complaints on here & for someone who's moving there soon, tell me some good stuff to look forward to.
I'm surprised how many people stay living here if it is as awful as everyone says??

I really suggest starting on page one of this board and spending a few hours at your leisure reading every single post.
I gurantee you will find numerous posts from people saying nice things.
But you need to do some work.
There are 36 pages here, has anyone read them all? I have in order.
Doing this gives you a much clearer picture of everything said.
Stop reading posts at random. Make a drink and a sandwich and start at page one.

I agree with Arizonaheat, start from the beginning. You have to make up your own mind. There are alot of good things. And there are bad things too but anywhere you look you will find the same. You will also find some of the posts negative to the point of anger but take those with a grain of salt.
We are planning to move there as soon as we can sell out house here in the Chicago area. There are people here that think it here is the absolut beat place to live and people that think it is the absolut worst. If we had weather like Tucson, mountians, sunsets like Tucson, more realistic taxes and house prices, and friendler people (like we find in tucson) it would be a great place to live.
I still have found nothing to show us that we should not move there. (we have 8yo triplets too) If it were just a choice of getting in the car and driving there we would already be there. I think the positive things far exceed the negative in Tucson. I also believe that much of the negative is avoidable with common sense.
Remember that much of the negative you read are just opinions along with some of the positive things. But since you are already moving there you have already made part of your decision about Tucson.
As for the temperatures, again it is all about what you want. I have lived in the Chicago area all of my life and have always dispised the cold and snow. I have tried to make the best of it but really cannot continue anymore. Ever since the first time I visited Arizona I have longed to move there. I like the dry heat. My sinuses like the dry heat. My wife is from northeast Brazil and she never experienced anything below about 75 degrees until she came here and she can't wait to move. My kids were 6 1/2 when we visited Tucson (1 1/2 years ago) and they continue to hound us about when we are going to finely move. We all fell in love with Tucson from the minute we got there. We drove to Pheonix while we were there (so my wife could see it and experience the higher temps) and like me didn't like it. I have been to the Pheonix area numerious times over the past 15-16 years both in the summer and winter and although Pheonix shares some of the beauty as Tucson, (if you are in the right place) I never really liked it. But when we visited Tucson I knew it was the place we would want to go.

Maybe you are just made for Tucson. I could never move my family there even though I grew up there in the 70s. My uncle stayed and lost his antique collection in a home robbery. And he didn't live in the barrio. Just look at the crime stats:
TPD Crime Stats
Or are you one of those people who can afford to live in a a gated fortress community?
I do sure miss that monsoon season weather and that Sonoran desert (what's left of it). Wear plenty of sunscreen and please try not to run over snakes warming themselves on roads!

This is a subject I'm interested in too. I last lived there 10 years ago, and last spent a couple of days there 6 years ago. I loved it back then, and have already committed to moving back next month.
Can someone who lives there answer this? My guess is that Oro Valley, the Foothills, and the far East side of town are still safe. Can anyone tell me whether that's still true or not?

Oh yes, please stay away from Tucson. We really don't miss people that don't like it here.

Well, I can say I love it so far ! I have been here two weeks I moved from Atlanta and I have to honestly say the people are nicer. Everyone seems pretty content here unlike other places and extremely happy with what they have. Also I don't see many race issues or segregation everyone is cool. I am pretty young and I have to honestly say I don't miss Atlanta at all. The weather and the environment as a whole has made me more complete and I feel a hell of alot better. The wages are alot lower but I guess you have to sacrifice something. I think it is a nice place to chill until I make my final relocation to Vegas eventually. The people have there own style here and they don't care about how you look or dress and I like that. There are plenty of things too do they have many shopping areas and restaurants, but no clubs but that doesn't bother me. Tucson does have Casinos which makes for good night life and there are clubs in some of them also. I have no issues with it so far I feel healthier now if I can get a good solid job I would be happier LOL !

There are already too many people there. If you wear a white hat and carry, you might improve the community. They have a great air muesem there, but city fathers that would take your money and send you down the road if you come in an RV.

I agree (mostly)
Life here is good and is perfect for retirement.
We left San Juan Capistrano CA 3 years ago after 35 years in the OC and never looked back.
The traffic and congestion there get to you after a while.
Here (Tucson) we can go to any restaurant we want and never worry about being late for your reservation.
