This is the SONORA DESERT
It's not ever going to be some sort of mega-plex utopia. Ya want trees... go to Payson 'n parts north... Ponderosa galore... also elk, bears 'n other critters wandering into the road at night (what fun)!

I've been in Tucson the past few days after 4 months away. I've never seen such **** poor road conditions, a horrible educational situation, and general economic malaise that permeates this area like an unwanted flu epidemic.

This place is not for me. I am used to big Pine trees, tall natural grasses growing, abundance of water, and good drinking water, like from an Artesian well, wide open spaces, and milder weather, thats not this hot. Would I recommend the place for someone to move to? No, especially if you have children.

Given those preferences, why did you move there in the first place? I'm not surprised you are not happy there.

And which earthly paradise do you find yourself residing in these days, actinic?

My family and I recently moved to Denver from Tucson and we couldn't be happier with our choice. The economy here is doing much better than AZ, the housing market is stable, the weather is AWESOME (in the 70's today), and the place is actually clean and attractive.
Tucson has its good points, but actually living there was a drag for us, especially with a child that will be starting school soon. My advice, find a place that makes you happy and move there. If Tucson is your thing, that's great. If not, relocate. Don't live someplace you don't enjoy because life is too short!

Glad you found someplace you like. Especially good advice about moving if you don't like where you're at. So much better than complaining about where you're at.
I liked Denver too. Great summers. Not fond of the winters though. Anyway, to each his own. Congrats!

hey spot, good luck in denver. i lived in boulder from 1996 to 1998 and loved it there. it's super family friendly and very healthy to just walk around and have fun.
as just to let you know, you have made THE SMARTEST DECISION of your life to get your child into the colorado school system and keep him/her out of the hideous arizona system.
i have nightmares regarding the schools in tucson. they are the worst in the country, maybe even the world. giving my kid a good education here was beyond words for me to express. HOW BAD IT IS. and i have had her in private, public and charter schools. the only reason i am still here is for her to finish high school.
spot, your have saved your child's life in relocating. i CANNOT express this enough.
to all the self-absorbed retirees on this board, i do not care what you say or think. to the parents and working people of tucson, you KNOW what hell it is here and having to compensate every day in every way for pure ****.
