What kind of service work do you want to do? A lot of it is low paying and depends on tips. Everything is slowing down around here now and won't pick up again until October.

Default Resort jobs ?

Hi Jim -- The resort hiring season is slowing down here, particularly in the lower desert areas of Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma, Lake Havasu, Parker, and Bullhead City. Those areas get really hot so there are fewer tourists. However, Phoenix is getting more year-round business[including more conventions] so there are some jobs. There was an interesting article yesterday in the Arizona Republic about how resorts were now hiring workers from the Philippine Islands on Visas, because they were having trouble getting workers. You possibly could still get employment up at the Grand Canyon or Lake Powell; they provide housing and you have the cost deducted directly out of your paycheck. Just Google Grand Canyon jobs or check out Monster or Jobbing.com and you should find some. The Flagstaff area has many motels; however, you need to be aware that the cost of housing is very high in Flagstaff and the service jobs are low-paying. Same with Prescott and Payson. Most people would prefer to live in those communities because they are smaller and the climates are much nicer than Phoenix -- however, housing costs are high relative to the average pay. That is why you have millions living in Phoenix -- there are many more jobs and the cost of living is lower than in the mountain communities. Note: the cost of housing has also risen sharply in Phoenix since 2004. Check out www.workforce.az.gov for the Arizona Workforce Informer website. It has lots of useful information about Arizona employment.
