Hi,

I wondering if it's common to have any of the following in one's home: mice, crickets, snakes, lizards, and such. I especially want to know about mice in the house. Also, are coyotes common outside the house at night? I want to know what to expect for wildlife as compared to here in New England. Thanks

You can expect to hear about encounters with rattlesnakes (Crotalidae), scorpions (Centruroides, Vaejovis, Smeringurus, Diplocentrus), tarantulas (Aphonopelma), black widows (Latrodectus hesperus), tailless whipscorpions (Damon species), sunspiders (aka camel spiders, wind scorpions--Solifugids), etc, etc, etc.

Coyotes are very common in AZ. There are also javalina, Gila monsters, mountain lions. In other words, be careful where you step/tread/etc. Youre in THEIR territory, remember that.

Oh, there are also giant centipedes (Scolopendra genus) that can make their way into houses from time to time. The largest species (Scolopendra heros heros and Scolopendra heros arizonensis) can deliver horrid bites, but theyre not considered harmful. Expect bad swelling and intense pain. Large specimens can reach 9-10", on average they are 5-8".

I mostly see lizards and ants. Sometimes in the evening there's a Geico on my front porch trying to sell me car insurance.
