Where in New Mexico? I don't know how you define "cold", so a little more info on that would help.

"Crowded" is another sort of relative term. Metro Phoenix, which includes Mesaa (one of the larger suburbs) is a very spread out place, but there are lots of people here. Tucson is also spread out, but smaller in population than Phoenix.

Are you planning on working while you are here? That could influence your choice as well.

Default Warm?

Having lived in SW Fla for 7 years, Tucson winters seem quite cold. I prefer Tucson to Mesa but it depends on what you're looking for. Tucson has an amazing nightlife and dependent upon where you live is very walkable. The people for the most part are friendly and the lifestyle is laid back. If you're looking for same 'ol, same 'ol, I'd go Mesa or Phoenix. Most areas are metro; malls, malls and more malls. Good luck in your search.
