I'm looking for a vet in Tucson for my two dogs, both Shih Tzu's. I'm looking for someone that is caring and compassionate and knows what they are doing. Our previous vet gave us misleading information which ultimately led to a very premature death of our beloved companion. We now have a new puppy who is having some ear problems that I would like to have checked but really want to find someone good. Any suggestions?

I had great luck with Jack Quick at Pantano Animal....I especially liked that, when my dog was getting older (in 2004) and it was near time to put her to sleep, he said just come back in when you're ready and didn't, instead, try to churn business by suggesting some surgery option...highly recommended!!!!!

I take my dogs to Dr. Samuels at Central Animal Hospital. It is on Speedway across from Lucky Strike. He is very thorough and takes the time to answer questions. He has even answered questions for me by email. I lean towards homeopathic options and he is willing to talk about the options with me and I never feel pressured to give my dogs anything that I don't think is necessary. I've taken rats and rabbits there, too. He was more than helpful and took the time to talk about food, bedding, how to pick them up properly, etc. I have never felt rushed, either. Even when my dog needed a teeth cleaning, I wasn't pressured to do it ASAP. He reminded me that in February there is a discount for Pet Dental Month (or something) and that it would be fine to wait until then. Prices are fair and actually less than many vets in town. The office staff is on top of it and always knows what is going on. They are very knowledgeable and helpful.

I have gone to Benarda Veterinary care as well because she is a homeopathic vet. I always felt rushed and the vet would just disappear and I wouldn't get to ask questions. She was also pretty expensive and I felt I should have been given a bit more courtesy when it came to not being so rushed.

The PAWS center on River that just opened sounds nice, but it is very expensive compared to most vets.

I take my dog to Central Animal Hospital as well. They are the best I ever dealt with. They beat my two previous vets in Albuquerque in every aspect. Highly recommended.
