Where do the locals go to escape the summer heat for a day or weekend? I know lots in Phoenix go to Sedona or Flaggstaff. That's a little further of a drive from Tucson. Is there somewhere closer?

Mt. Lemmon, or if you want a bit of a longer drive, Mt. Graham can be nice if you can get up in elevation.

It can still be hot up there during the summer though - just not as bad.

The White Mountains are a good escape from the heat as well, albeit not that close. Madera Canyon (really close) is also somewhat cooler, but not much.

I've been in Madera canyon when it was hot enough to fry eggs during the day, and then turned around and froze my nuts off over night.
