Or how about Hardy Road? It disappears at least three times and each leg is further north than the previous one.

There are plenty of roads like that, particularly those that normally would go through the base.

CortEro would be pronounced like that.
If I read Cortaro I would make the middle syllable -tar.

^^^As somebody that has lived here 15 years, it's Cortaro as in Cort-ear-o. Haven't you even heard of the word "tarot"? No ea in there either but it's still pronounced "tear-oh".
