Hello again! I had previously posted asking info about Claremore versus Broken Arrow. I have a few more specific questions I need help with.

I am trying to transfer with the company I work for now, which has branches in both Claremore and B.A. Hopefully I will transfer with no problems and have a full time job upon moving there, but realistically there is always that chance that my company can cut back on hours/lay off ect. I have always gotten the impression from sources on the web that the greater Tulsa area, including B.A. and Claremore, had a stable and somewhat progressive economy. However, the past couple of weeks I have talked on the phone to residents from both towns, potential landlords, employess of local businesses ect., most of whom paint a somewhat different picture of the local economy. I would like some honest opinions on this. If I were to transfer to either city and my company cut back hours or laid off, what would be my chances of finding another full time job? I have a good work record but its retail based. Do the job openings tend to be diversified, or are the openings limited to certain fields? If a person loses their job, approximately how long does it take them to find a full time job? Thats very important, I am a twentysomething female single with no kids so I have no other resources other than myself to depend on and cannot make ends meet on a part time job.

Also, where I live at now I am paying $500.00 per month for a 2bed/2bath/1 car garage, older home but still in good condition, in a quiet working class neighborhood. That is about the average around here for that type of home. I could actually find something smaller or an efficiency apt. for quite a bit cheaper. It seems to me the rent prices are a bit higher in OK. I have looked quite a bit at the rentals in Claremore but I am trying to focus more on B.A. now. How successful would I be in finding something similar to what I am paying for now? $525.00/month would be my absolute limit, but would really need something closer to $450.00 or so. I don't want to live in a dumpy or rough neighborhood either, so any imput from locals would help. Which parts of B.A./Claremore are "rough"? Which parts would be better for cheaper housing thats not in bad condition?

Many thanks,

c.d.

I would not make the move unless I knew I had the security of keeping my job. It sounds like you may not know if you could keep your job. Yes, the South-Central has done better, in general, than other regions economically. However, it is still hard to find a job anywhere....especially if you lose your job and are desperate to find another one.

It sounds like you live in a nice house right now with relatively low rent at $500....that sounds like a pretty good situation and something I personally wouldn't leave unless I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt I had job security in Broken Arrow/Claremore.

Having said that, both Broken Arrow/Claremore are great towns. I personally prefer Claremore as Broken Arrow is essentially a large feeder community to Tulsa. Claremore still retains a little bit of a smaller town feel IMO.

Blessings to you as you make your decisions.

Hard to tell you how hard it is to get a job. Depends mostly on how picky you are. There are jobs out there if you are flexible. And retail is always looking for help. I really can't think of a "bad" area in either Claremore or BA.
