Fort Gibson is only about 5 miles or so to the VA form Mushgokee with no crime to mention so maybe I should retire there? I've never been there so does anyone know anything about the town? I'm really sick of the big city and all the traffice. But I need to be near a VA Hospital

I love that area. I would move there in a NY minute.....but I have Cherokee roots too.........

If you have ANY big town habits though (good restaurants, theater, symphony, ballet, opera), the only place to come close to indulging them is Tulsa, about 30-45 minutes away.

The beauty of the Tulsa area is that there are all types of terrain/ecoregions within two hours. Hubby and I have talked and while we didn't expect to love it so, an awful lot about Tulsa appeals to us and little to nothing bothers us!

So I've plunged some roots into my little penninsula on Keystone Lake and I'm afraid I'll be like peppermint trying to get me out of here!

I know this thread is old, but I'm from Fort Gibson, so I had to comment. It's a great little town. There are several little restaurants, the lake, the river, and plenty of country. Car show in the summer. Lots of Old Fort activities. The town itself is very clean and neat for a small town in OK. Short drive to Muskogee, Tahlequah and Tulsa. If I could convince my husband to move back, I would be there next week!

You would love the lack of traffic. I live near Ft Gibson and know many who live there. Great place to retire.

Thank you for information about Fort Gibson. We are considering moving to the area. Didn't even realize there is a VA hospital close by.

Default Hmmm

You may want to reconsider this town, the police and justice system here is very aggressive and unjust, I am also not the kind of person to be or find trouble. If you come here you will eventually be sited and or arrested for anything regardless of age, status, or how awesome you are. Mark my words get your checkbook out if you come here....
