Tulsa best/worst area and apartments
Hi, i am moving from Los angeles, CA to tulsa, OK to work there for 6 months.
and i am looking for an apt to rent. my main requirement is the area has to be safe and clean (not getho )...
can anybody please recommand few neighborhoods to rent an apt from? the price is not a problem, but of course i wouldnt wanna live in a place just because it is expensive. a decent safe clean neighborhood would do it for me.
i was looking online and i found these neighborhoods:
which one of these should i avoid? and which ones would you recommand? if you have anything in mind beside what it is in this list please feel free to suggest.
thanks!

I don't live there anymore, but I might be able to lend some perspective to some of the areas. Hopefully some native Tulsans will chime in with more up to date info. If I were to live in Tulsa again it would be up near downtown (University Club Apts) or near Brookside or my favorite, Midtown. But midtown is mainly residential and not as many apts, although you can probably find garage apt. rentals and such. What part of town will you be working in?
1 . University Club 74119 9 89% 4.11
1722 South Carson
The above address is what I believe the University CLub Tower (pic below, round "jetsons" looking tower). It's near downtown and in a safe area. I'm not sure what the cost is, but I believe they are reasonable.
2 . Lincoln Park Apartments 74119 7 86% 4.14
1816 S. Carson
Same area as the University Club Tower. Decent area, near downtown and the Riverparks
3 . The Palazzo 74134 12 83% 4
1377 East 51st Street
I would think this area is safe as well. Don't know about the price.
4 . Summer Stone Duplexes 74108 10 80% 3.7
1801 S 132nd East Place
A little "iffy" on this one as I don't know the area.
5 . Woodland Oaks 74133 32 78% 3.81
7142 South 92nd East Avenue
I think this is a safe area.
6 . Windsail 74133 22 77% 3.86
9808 East 73rd Street South
7 . Ashwood Apartments 74134 12 75% 4.08
2929 S 129th East Ave
8 . Lincoln on Memorial 74133 19 74% 4.11
7777 South Memorial Drive

Yep, I always loved that tower too! It adds a little diversity to the downtown area buildings.

I never liked the tower when I lived there in the 80's... it's something about it... I mean, it's nice and different, which is good... but it's just... I don't know. Ugly? Maybe it's the black stripe paint? I can't decide.

A view into the future
I am actually moving tomorrow so I have been looking around at apartments for the past couple months. I've lived in Tulsa my whole life so I hope I can help.

These apartments have nice security, great fitness room and swimming area, and probably the most spectacular view of tulsa you can find in an apartment. And that view is what you are paying for. I was incredibly disappointed with the actual apartments. Due to the circular shape of the building, you end up with a very narrow entryway that fans out to the windows. The rooms aren't very spacious and all of the piping is exposed and painted white. Having a nice view is great in my opinion, but they fail to back it up with a nice apartment.
2 . Lincoln Park Apartments 74119
1816 S. Carson
I have not actually checked into these apartments, but i can comment on the area. It is right next to 18th and Boston, which is one of the most happening areas in the town. Depending on who you are, this may be a good or bad thing. Traffic can sometimes get backed up during certain events, but overall it's a good area.
3 . The Palazzo 74134
1377 East 51st Street
Again, I cannot comment on these from experience, but the area around it is relatively undeveloped. There's not going to be a lot of crime in this area and I can't remember ever having a problem with traffic. Its also right next to the Broken Arrow expressway which connects to every other highway in town.
4 . Summer Stone Duplexes 74108
1801 S 132nd East Place
I have not checked into these either, but the location is 2-3 blocks away from an airport. Its not the international airport, but you will still get airport noise, I'm sure. Its also located in a declining area of town. There is a higher crime rate in this area. I would avoid it.
5 . Woodland Oaks 74133
7142 South 92nd East Avenue
These are actually the apartments I am moving into. They are located in the heart of shopping central. There is food everywhere, shopping everywhere.... anything you want is within a mile of the apartments. There are two phases to the apartments. Phase 1 which I was not impressed with due to the small kitchen size (I work in the food industry) and Phase 2 which is where I am going to be. There are pools, tennis courts, and a (small) fitness room. The only problem I foresee with these apartments is there is a lot of traffic in the area especially around Christmas-time. Luckily there is a back entrance so I've yet to see how much traffic will be an issue.
6 . Windsail 74133
9808 East 73rd Street South
Again these are in the same area as Woodland Oaks, except they're a little closer to the "Hellzone" as we call it, which is where traffic gets backed up for about a mile with people trying to get on the highway. It's off to the side so there are ways around the traffic, but it will still be an issue. I never saw any of the interiors at these apartments, but from the exterior they seem to be well-kept.
7 . Ashwood Apartments 74134
2929 S 129th East Ave
Again, this is not the best area of town. This area, if I remember correctly, if mostly industrial with warehouses everywhere, a train the stops in the middle of the street anytime you're in a hurry, and slightly more increased crime rate. I marked off any in this area when I was looking.
8 . Lincoln on Memorial 74133
7777 South Memorial Drive
These apartments are great. Again, didn't see the interiors, but they're in a good area of town, there's not a lot of traffic, and overall these just look like a great place to live.
9 . Galleria Apartments 74133
10011 South Sheridan Road
I'm actually not familiar with these apartments or the area very well. I do know theres not a high crime rate in this area.
10 . Silverstone 74134
13195 East 31st Street
Again, not a good area of town.
11 . Windsong Apartments
9750 East 31st Street
Not familiar enough with these apartments to make a judgement on them, but the area is not bad. Its inbetween a good part of town and a bad part. It's close to 3 different highways so its easy to get around to where you want to go.
12 . Riverside Park Apartments
7700 Riverside Drive
I've looked at so many apartments in this area, I'm not even sure which one this is but I know I've looked at it. Its right across the river from the Riverwalk Crossing, a growing area of culinary and shopping needs equipped with its own movie theater. All in all, this is a nice area to live in and I didn't have any real negative apartments in this area. You might also check into Crown Woods.
13 . Park Villas Apartments 74145
4974 South 76th East Avenue
I'm beginning to think I responded to this just to tell you the area of town these places are in haha.... This is a very quiant area. To me it gives off an "at home" impression, but I'm probably bias since I grew up right around here.
14 . Westport on the River 74107
1703 South Jackson Avenue
This is located inbetween two refineries. I personally would not choose to live here or anywhere else described as West Tulsa. It's close to Highway 75, downtown tulsa, and the Riverwalks Festival Park.
15 . Plaza Hills East 74108
13025 East 16th Place
I can only say the same thing I did about Summer Stone Duplexes... since they're right next to each other.

Sorry I couldn't be more help with the actual apartments. I'd say your best bets would be the following: Palazzo, Woodland Oaks, Lincoln, Galleria, Riverside Park, and Crown Woods.
Crown Woods is in a nice area of town, has nice, large ceilings (top floor has vaulted ceilings), plenty of room, and the prices are reasonable. The only complaint I've heard is about parking.
Note: In case you're wondering, No i'm not a representative of Crown Woods. Just an almost-tenant (moved in with my girlfriend instead)
I hope this all helps

The Tulsa Police department has a map on their website that shows crime incidents... you can filter stuff like murder, sexual assault, burglary, etc. It is a little hard to use and old fashioned, but it works.
I am too lazy to look up the address, but google it and mess around on their website, you will find the map.
You really, really need to be more specific. Where are you working? What do you mean by 'clean' and 'safe'? What would you consider 'dirty' and 'dangerous'?
I lived a few miles outside of Tulsa for 30 years, to me 'clean' means you don't have any porcelain bathroom furnishings in your front yard, your dead cars are stored neatly on blocks, and your dogs are behind a fence. 'Safe' means prostitutes do not hang out on the sidewalk, no murders within the past 5 years within a square mile, and no meth labs within a 3 mile radius.
To other people 'clean' means some underpayed migrant mows the lawn every other day, and 'safe' means a 10 foot high electric fence with keycard access that separates them from the unwashed masses.
You can find either side in Tulsa, it all depends on what you want, but you have to know what you want and say it.
id also like to point to apartmentratings.com, it has some very good reviews of tulsa apartments written by residents, and is how i found my current wonderful apartment.
good luck.

Great post here. A little thoroughness (and honesty) will yield better answers and less work.

I live at the Lincoln park apts...under the tower...(btw the apt in the tower have a great view...but they are small and show their age) I'm paying 1025 a month for a lrg 2 bedroom facing the river..I'm moving because of the road noise and the price. That said Lincoln Park is the best kept property I've seen. They are lux. apts. I've been trying to get into the Riverside Apt, which have river facing apts that are NOT also on the road. They are several hundred dollars cheaper too heh. In you dont mind not living on the river check out The Falls on Shadow Mountain...its in shopping area..not as fancy or well kept but GREAT views and low rent and covered parking to protect your car from hailstorms. I'm looking at a 3 bedroom there with 3 separate patios for 800/month.
