Default Remember these guys?

The band first formed as the Greenwood, Archer and Pine Street Band in 1967 in their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma and shortened its name to the GAP Band in 1979.

I always liked this song. Even with the funky outfits these guys were good.

Ya it is. It's played as the opening to a local talk show (in the morning) and that's why I remembered it. That was back in the day when MUSICIANS sang and it wasn't just Britney Spears or some other bobblehead who couldn't play an instrument to save their life dancing on stage.

It's true though don't you know? I mean, do you notice that Britney Spears and all of the other pop acts today don't play instruments? They are all marketing tools that were propped up by record labels because of looks. They don't even sing live at their "concerts" it's all lip sync. Bands like the GAP band and all of the other good musicians (yes, MUSICIANS) of that era were multi-dimensional. They could play, sing, AND dance; they were true entertainers and artists. I guess I'm just gettin' old, I sound like my dad.

I guess I am getting old too. I liked all the popular music up until a few years ago. I even liked rap music in the beginning. Now I just listen to the oldies station.

Well, make that three of us getting old. And I ONLY listen to the old rock n roll stations. It's KOOL 98 here. I don't like country music, unlike most of the population or rap or most of the modern music. Just the good old songs.

You know, we just had a discussion like this at work yesterday. Elton John is going to be an hour away from me and we considered going to the concert. We will be going to a lesser known concert just the week before that, too. Well, since we need a place to live and heat for the winter, we decided against getting tickets to see Elton John, too. The multiple seating sold out in 7 minutes and the remaining single seats were gone fast, too. After 23 minutes, EVERYTHING was gone. Our group at work was having the discussion about how arrogant most of the performers are. I have personally been snipped at or ignored while buying a tape or a t-shirt, getting their signature on a tape etc. Thought it was just ME. The consensus was that we had all been treated very shabbily by the performers. One guy goes to a lot of sporting events and travels far distances to go to important games. He said their demeanor is exactly the same way~same arrogance and rudeness while doing autographs on items. I was also disappointed to learn that EJ was extremely upset because the only spot he was willing to have a concert at was at the Rushmore Civic Center, which was booked the night he was available. Now I agree~that area of our state is much prettier then here, but dang, can you imagine what kind of concert he'll be willing to give the people here?

It's unbelievable how arrogant and condescending some entertainers are, especially once they achieve "legendary" status. It's too bad, and I hope EJ is not that way, he is a phenomenal talent. I actually saw the GAP band a long time ago and it was a great concert. I always thought those guys were so cool. They are still putting out Albums, but I haven't heard their latest. I'll have to buy a CD; I love all kinds of music.

Robert Wilson used to practice on my mothers Piano when he was in Jr. High and High School....But in the Band he plays Base Guitar.... The Lead singer is Charlie Wilson and his other brother is Ronnie Wilson. The Wilson brother father was a local Tulsa Penecostal Preacher and Pastor the GAP Band probably are the second greatest albums selling act to ever come out of Tulsa..10's of Millions of Records sold....Garth Brooks is the number one selling artist from Tulsa as we all know.GAP stands for Greenwood Archer and Pine Streets Tulsa Black Wall Street District.
