I agree quality of life is definitely subjective. I've lived in or visited a lot of different cities. Can Tulsa compete with San Diego or a host of other cities. No, but but it's a great, affordable city with friendly people, plenty to do, and great beauty.

You'll be struck immediately by the high percentage of people in Tulsa that are very overweight. I moved here 3 years ago and I'm still amazed by it. I think it's primarily due to their poor dietary practices and especially the over-consumption of sugars.

A lot of Tulsans are "High on Jesus" And have no problem telling you that....All the time. Try not to giggle the first couple of dozen times you hear someone say that! They are being serious.

Okie: I live in Midtown and work Downtown and I have never, ever heard that in the 2 years I have lived here. I think Tulsa proper is a lot more tolerant than the 'burbs these days. I have heard that BA is basically run by members of a certain SBC and that Sand Springs is the same way.

The reason Tulsa is fat is a combination of high humidity summers, unwalkable suburbs and some people's penchant for the Southern diet. I don't think it is as bad as other areas of Oklahoma but it is bad for moving here from Colorado. I lost weight after moving to Tulsa so there is proof that you won't gain 30 lbs just by moving here.

Flyingcat2k I find it hard to believe you have never heard that here in Tulsa. But then again I worked mostly in South Tulsa. I worked as an Insurance Agent at 61st and Yale and was always out seeing clients. And the joke in the office was how many of our appointments wanted to save us from going to Hell. LOL

In 06 a few of us were eating lunch at Olive Garden and a group of about 4 young people at a table across the room yelled out "Jesus"! It kind of startled everyone in the restaurant but then most started clapping and smiled in approval.

A few years back a buddy of mine from Huntsville AL came up to hang out for a few days and hoped to go storm chasing. He wanted to hit a few bars downtown. None of us are really bar folks but seemed to be something for us all to do that night. So we started at Club Majestic and on the sidewalk in front of the bar was a group of about 3 collage age kids were dancing with bibles in hand and begging us not to go in. The very next night we were driving down Riverside and around 41st street we saw a group of about 6 or 8 young men running down the side of the road caring a huge cross! Our buddy Darren ask what the heck is going on in Tulsa? LOL he said Tulsa was more churchy than Huntsville!

Have you ever been down to Bills Burgers near Admiral and Lewis? Its like eating in a church! He has bible verses painted on the walls. I seems every time I eat out I see people praying.

Just Sunday I went out to Tulsa Hills shopping center. On the main entrance at 71st and Olympia were a group of about 6 people holding up signs that said "Have a Blessed Day" And "Jesus Loves you"

And it seems that every night KOTV has a church story. They even have a reporter dedicated to religion. I hear a lot of talent at KOTV are ORU grads. You know when we have snow they give both school and church closings. And when NBC aired "***** Eye for the Straight Guy" KJRH ran reruns of "Coach" instead! LOL

And one time I drove past Hooters and there was the young lady dancing across Memorial Dr holding a silver cross... Tulsa is very churchy but I also live in Midtown and it is not quit as churchy here as south Tulsa.

You're actually making my point. KOTV is in South Tulsa, which is also home to ORU. South Tulsa, Jenks and BA are all in that group, not midtown and as I work downtown, I can assure you that your experience at the Majestic was abnormal. The Blue Dome is more known for praying at 2 AM than Sunday morning. As for biblical quotes, there are always a few restaurants that are open in their faith in every town, even "godless" San Fran.

I don't think this is all bad but having lived here for 2 years, I haven't been preached to (and not asking to be thank you). I think Tulsa has the perception that it is still in the throws of the Oral Roberts and the Bible Belt but it is getting away from that in some areas of town. You won't see it where the baby boomers live but I see it where younger people live.

Given that Rhema and ORU are here, a cross in the park isn't surprising. What is surprising and comforting at the same time is that the ACLU and the atheist movement aren't there to have them arrested.

If you don't want to be near the bible thumpers, I'd suggest Midtown, Red Fork or downtown.

San Diego is an awesome city, but it's a lot easier to live in Tulsa.

The price of housing makes sense compared to the wages in Tulsa, and there's fairly low unemployment.

The weather is worse, and you won't have the ocean. But there's the same variety of things to do that you would find in most cities of it's size.

There won't be as much stuff to do in Tulsa, but at least at the end of the month you'll end up with enough money to do it.

The OKC and Tulsa are both places that are easy to live, from an economic point of view.

KOTV is in the East Village downtown about three blocks from the Blue Dome and currently moving to the Brady District.

Channel 8 is on Signal Mountain, no television station is on Shadow Mountain.

KOTV is downtown, KTUL is west on the mountain, KJRH is in Brookside and KOKI is out east.
