What is going on at ORU in Tulsa?
It's not a headline story, but what's the deal with Richard and Lindsey Roberts? How does Tulsa in general feel about ORU? I have always respected their ministry and would like to hear from others, especially those who live in the Tulsa area.

Oral Roberts made Tulsa a bit of a laughing stock; especially when I moved to another state in the early 90s.
His whole 'gimme 9 million dollars or I'm going to God' thing really got that stirred up. I would note to people I was from Tulsa, and immediately they thought of Oral and that fiasco.
Essentially, what it amounts to is Richard (Oral's son and school president) is in the thick of accusations that school money was being used for politico-religious purposes (such as using said money for political campaign help).
Go to Tulsa World : Home Page and you can find several articles on it that go more into detail, I'm sure.

Oral Roberts is a mighty vessel and man of God! He has spread the news of the glorious Jesus Christ all over the place! He stopped his ministry because people looked more towards him rather than God.

Sorry, AFAIC, Oral Roberts is an embarrassment to the Christian community and has made a laughing stock out of Christians everywhere and Tulsans in particular.

OMG....a mighty vessel and man of God??? You know, if people like that are in heaven, I think the alternative might not be such a bad idea. He stopped his ministry because the world was laughing at him. I can't imagine anything he or his family represents being taken seriously. Personally, I place the whole family in the same classification with Brittany Spears. Too much fame, too much money, too fast, along with poor judgement and questionable moral character. My mom would probably say....tiz hard to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Sorry, I'm just very honest and very frank. I don't like what that whole mess has done to the property value around 81st and Lewis. The once Oral Roberts owned apartments have been sold for a song and are now low income projects and becoming ghettos full of high crime. The City of Faith was poorly constructed and is now is disrepair. I fear that South Tulsa will be feeling the effects of that "legacy" more and more as the years pass. The school is over 50 million dollars in debt and run down and looking pitiful. If "JesusisLord" is right, it's a good thing cuz it's gonna take nothing short of a miracle to turn that situation around.

I just want to know where Dr. Richard Roberts got his "doctorate". That one stumps me.
Yes, I'm afraid Oral and Richard don't enjoy the reputation locally that they enjoy throughout
the charismatic world. Oral is a huckster, but he's smart. "Dr." Richard, on the other hand, is just
a wannabe huckster, but he just couldn't pull it off.

I remember living in Tulsa when he went on his crying campaign about "The lord told me to raise x amount of money or he was calling me home. Well if heaven is such a glorious place and that's where he wanted to end up then why did it seem he was always in such a constant state of panic??? Doubt in his faith or hamming it up for the $$$???

Richard's bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees are all from ORU. What a surprise.

I would hope that Oral Roberts is not an embarrassment to the Christian community because that would make the Christian community pretty weak in character. I am sorry all this happend to the Roberts family. It is hard to fall from grace . I wish them the very best and much healing.

This is silly and off topic....But I have always admired the architecture on the campus. It really is very cool. A lot of money went into constructing it and it should get more recognition. Its too bad about all the drama...I am confident it will all work out.
