Hockey in Tulsa?
I'm a Canadian guy possibly moving to Tulsa for work. Are there any recreational hockey programs in the Tulsa area?

Excellent links LR. Apparently they have a lot of recreational hockey programs in Tulsa. Tulsa always has been a pretty decent hockey town. The Oilers have been around forever in different incarnations/leagues. Where are you going to work Barebud?

The Tulsa Oilers have played Hockey in Tulsa in various incarnations since 1928, when the team was in the AHA. With the Sonics moving to Oklahoma City, Edmonton had better watch out for a Tulsa ownership group trying to buy their Oilers.

I think that's a good point. Tulsa always has been quite the hockey town, and with the new arena and all - you'd think Tulsa might go for something like that. Tulsa doesn't have the MSA to draw in major league NBA or Baseball (certainly not football), but I could see good support for an NHL team. Even a major-league soccer team would be nice in Tulsa. Tulsa once had the roughnecks soccer team and they had great support; even won a championship, I believe.

My dad is from Toronto, he used to play here in Tulsa when I was younger. There is a minor hockey team for Tulsa an OKC.

Tulsa also has a Tier 3 Junior A Level hockey team called Tulsa Rampage (formerly known as the Bazooka Blues). They are currently #2 in the division and #3 in the WSHL. Not bad for their second season after the change.
Not many people know about them. I would like to see Tulsa become more of a hockey town than what they are. I didn't know we had so many teams until last year when I became a hockey fan. I now do the video work for Tulsa Rampage and loving it. Here are a couple of links: Tulsa Rampage > Home ( DNN 3.2.2 ) and tulsahockey.net - Home.

I went to Green Bay once and talked to a hockey talent scout while I was getting a tire replaced. He told me that Hockey was huge in Tulsa and no-one knew why. He said that Hockey was more popular in Tulsa than in many parts of the north that are stereotypically paired with hockey.

Tulsa has always been a big hockey town, and I am curious as to why as well. IMO, it's a good thing, I just wonder why it's always had such a hold in Tulsa.
