Help find my son a Tulsa apartment
My son will be moving to Tulsa to attend the welding school in January. After reading LOTS of horror stories about various apartments, I am at a loss to figure out an affordable area for him to stay. Can any of you please help us?????? Like everyone else, we need to find a clean, safe, affordable apartment. Is there such a place in Tulsa where a Mom can house her son so she can sleep at night? When we visited the welding school, we were told it was not in a good part of town (East 11th) and they did give us a map showing 4 apartment complexes several blocks (miles?) away. Unfortunately, I haven't read anything good about those on any of the blogs. Actually, I have read some VERY bad things.

You can also try rent.com or apartments.com or move.com. Apartmentguide may also be a site that'll help you find one.

Thanks to both of you for responding. I had sorta been looking at the apartmentguide.com, but I'm afraid it will be like the hotels you see online that look good in the pictures, but don't look so good after dark when you arrive and it's too late for a refund. Ya know what I mean???

YES, I know exactly what you mean. We just went away for a few days and discovered our motel was NOTHING as was pictured on the internet.
What zip code is your son looking at? I like to check that out to see if the area is a safe one.

I don't have any zip codes since we only drove past the complexes the school gave us the names of when we looked at the welding school. Riverchase appeared fairly decent on our drive through the parking lot, but the blogs I've read are soooo scarey !!!! Now I'm thinking we need to look at an entirely different area of the city. Problem is that we can't afford to pay the price for a luxury complex and a welding school student doesn't need luxury - he just needs safety for himself & his vehicle.
If I do find something that sounds good, I will see if you can tell me your opinion. I do appreciate you !!!
I know we'd better get a move on to find something since he starts in January. We live about 30 miles east of OKC, so we'll have to make another trip to Tulsa soon. And, of course, we have to wonder how many apartments will lease for less than 1 year. And....then there's the utilities - will we have to pay deposits, etc or are there very many that include utilities?? So many worries!!

Linda, how far is his school from 74136? It's the area near ORU and the fancy golf resort and the River Parks? As far as I have been able to tell by crime stats, it's one of the safest areas of Tulsa.

Does that mean that Tulsa Welding School isn't well known in the area? I guess I just assumed it was, but anyhow, their address is 2545 E 11th, 74104. I sure hope the fact that you don't know where they are isn't a bad sign. Like I said, though, the welding school did tell us that they are located in a bad part of town, but are well known throughout the U.S. I checked online and couldn't find anyone saying anything bad about the school, but if I need to know anything that you've heard, since you live in the area, please let me know. I don't know Tulsa at all, so whatever you have to tell me will help.

Sorry to confuse you, Linda. I do display my location under my name, but it's not always noticeable. I don't live in Tulsa or OK for that matter so that's why I have never heard of the welding school there. We've been to OK and we really like it there and I've done quite extensive research on it for a few years already. But none of the schooling programs were ever something that I was concerned about so I know nothing about them. I'm sure the school is fine and I'm so sorry that I alarmed you.
