Jenks, Broken Arrow or Berryhill
We are possibly going to be relocating from Coppell, TX to Oklahoma. Coppell is a very nice suburb in Dallas. We have two small children and schools are extremely important. Coppell is among the best school districts in the state of Texas and has a definite white picket fence atmosphere. It's an extremely safe place to live and there are many activities for the little people to be involved in.
We don't need the white picket fence atmosphere necessarily, I think it gives kids a false sense of what most of the world is really like; however, we want to be in a place that is clean and nice with great schools and for the most part a safe place to live. Coppell has strict codes and restrictions for where sex offenders can live in relation to schools, etc. They aren't wanted here and have a tough time moving here.
I am very worried about moving to the Tulsa area (I'd be nervous no matter where it was really).
Anyone that has anything to say good or bad; I'd really appreciate any opinion or point of view that you have. I'd like to know about schools, neighborhoods, crime, sports, just about anything you can think of. I definitely want to know what we are dealing with so that we can provide the best for our children.
Thanks

Moving to Tulsa...Jenks, Broken Arrow, Berryhill??
I have lived in Tulsa for 35 years and have raised 5 children here. They have attended Tulsa Public Schools, and Jenks. I graduated from Broken Arrow. There are great schools in and around Tulsa and their test scores are available online. For elementary students, Eliot is great and there are many other good ones in Tulsa Public. Most are old. Jenks schools are excellent for the young to middle school age child. The high school is huge and quite a distance from South Tulsa. Broken Arrow schools are also huge. Berryhill is a fairly good school district but the town itself is really a long way from good shopping districts. Bixby Schools are growing and have a good reputation as well, so don't forget that area. There are new homes being built in that area but they are pricey. The most important thing is your involvement. Get to know the teachers and read everything they send home. Help with homework and be supportive. If you have an issue, be vocal. I would have to rank Jenks as my favorite, but there was I time when I removed 3 of my children from Jenks and homeschooled them. I was tired of all the homework and not having the answers. Also, my son was not learning and was mistreated in kindergarten. He went back to Jenks in middle school and is now in college. Homeschool, to me, is an excellent option. It is perfectly legal in Oklahoma. Also, Tulsa has some excellent private schools.

I would recommend you a website GreatSchools.net
personally, I think any schools with score 8+ are great.

There are a dozen or so bedroom communities around the City of Tulsa all of which require sex offenders to register with local police or sheriff. Visit Tulsa County Sex Offender Register for neighborhood information.

Berryhill!!! My children attend both the junior high and grade school. We are now relocating to Arizona this year and my kids are eligible for specialized grade and junior high schools in Arizona's top school district. Says alot for Berryhills ability to educate. It's a great community and very supportive of the kids.

Have you narrowed down your area yet txdaisy? We currently live in McKinney,TX and are moving to Tulsa soon ourselves. I wanted to see if you have researched any of the schools and have narrowed down a district that you want to buy in? We also have kids and schools are very important.

Any specific reason why you are leaving McKinney? We are getting ready to relocate back to the US from Mannheim, Germany and are looking at Denton, McKinney and the Frisco area. Your recommendations?

Hey, I lived in Mannheim for two years! I loved it there. 5656 Hessiche Strauss was my address, it was near Waldheim if I remember correctly. I live in the DFW area now and am familiar with Mckinney, Denton, and Frisco. I'm originally from Oklahoma and would like to move back someday.
