Relocating to Oklahoma
My husband and I are relocating to the Oklahoma area. He has only been there once and I've never been there. His job is located in Bartlesville, Ok. We are looking to move sometime in May of 2008. We are a young couple and we don't think we are ready to buy yet. We are looking for a nice area not too far from Bartlesville. We noticed that there is only one apartment complex in Bartlesville and it's always full. We have a son, so school is very important. We are from a major Louisiana city and don't want to live too far into the country. We have been looking in the Owasso area. Can anyone help on where we should be looking?

How long of a commute are you looking for?

No more than about 30-40 minutes. We don't want to be in rush hour traffic. I'm not sure how busy it is in Tulsa. My husband was saying that he didn't want to be in Tulsa's major traffic to get to and from work.

The closest you'd be to Tulsa while being 30-40 minutes out of Bartlesville is far north areas such as Owasso and Collinsville. With going northbound you shouldn't have any travel problems.
Owasso would be a 40 mile drive so that may be stretching it. Collinsville is a little closer to Bartlesville but still close to the shopping in Owasso and farther down in Tulsa. Skiatook is also just west of Collinsville a bit.
The area is probably too rural. But Bartlesville is 15 miles from Kansas. So you may try posting in the Kansas forum to see if you can get any suggestions up that way.

Maybe you could look into renting a house in Bartlesville instead of an apartment complex.

There are several ways to search for apartments in Bartlesville. Just Google Search ....Apartments and Bartlesville, OK. I found numerous apartment complexes in Bartlesville. It looked like all of them accepted Section 8. That is something to consider. Also,
Bartlesville is just minutes away from Kansas: Caney, Coffeyville, and Independence are all less than 40 miles away. Oolagah might be an option as well. Schools there were great when my brother graduated there several years ago. The Bartlesville Examiner classifieds section had several homes for rent. I would certainly consider flooding in all areas and make sure that hasn't been a problem, regardless of where you decide to rent. I don't believe that has been a problem in Bartlesville. But it is in Skiatook, the little town to the south.
