Boiling Mad in Bixby
When I came to Bixby almost three years ago, I discovered that there was no public bus service. This bothered me because I worked in Tulsa and getting there and taking care of my kids took a lot of effort to say the least. When I approached the City Council, I was told to do something or get out... so I did! I created bus service in Bixby to hook up with Tulsa! The lines would run from 5:30am to 10:30pm Monday thru Saturday. Well, the goo 'ol State thought that this was too good to be true and denied State funding! Being a non-profit organization the State was baffled as to how to handle us. So they choose not to. "We've never done this before." So now, Students, teachers, the elderly and special needs people are still stuck in their same situation! I'm mad because they could have given us the OK, even though it's new and inovative. I guess that I wasn't one of the "good 'ol boys."

It was probably thought there would be very few people using a new bus service in Bixby and so it would just be a waste of money. And remember this is Oklahoma. We believe in solving our problems by not running to the government.

Is this satire?
At first I assumed so- but now I'm wondering. Just curious.

Don't be silly. You know us Okies, particularly in south Tulsa, Jenks and Bixby don't have a sense of humor.

I am not familiar with Bixby. Which location (street) would there be a need? We are trying to get a shuttle bus service started but not sure where the routes should start.

Oh really? Where are these people when we spend 75 mill to widen the typical South Tulsa intersection? Is that not government money? How bout all the money extending and widening ever more roads? 100milll plus PER MILE to widen I44. etc. etc. But try to get any form of Mass Transit like rail or a decent bus service and its "oooh nooo government shouldnt be involved".
I would absolutely LOVE it if we really would follow the keep gov out of transportation thing. No city, county, state, federal dollars for roads or mass transit. Peeeeeeeeerfectly fine with me. Bet you would be amazed at how compact this city would become. No more aimless sprawl. If the developers and private enterprise had to build the roads, you would see people building where the roads already are and building more compactly and vertically. Would absolutely love to see that. I bet you would also find that rail would cost less in a really competitive, alls fair fight. Dont want to subsidise rail or trolleys/busses, well lets not subsidize roads and cars either. If you want to let the free market do its thing and keep the gov. out of the transportation business. Lets do it all the way and be fair about it.

Um, this surprised you? I also think it's surprising that you are surprised that the government didn't send some money your way. This is all very surprising.

What's all really surprising is that this thread got resurrected from December of 07....
