We are considering buying a home in the OakTree Community...

Cross Streets
: 81st and Garnett

We initially looked at Jenks or Bixby but we are a Chinese and African American couple so we believe living within South Tulsa (which appears to be a more diverse area) may be a better alternative. Our child is less than 1yr old so we are really not concern about schools yet. But we would like a nice, safe, stress free friendly neighborhood in the price range of 160K to 190K...

Please let us know of any recommend communities...

81st & Garnett is a good area and good schools. You can probably buy a 2500sqft+ house for that.

That is a great area. Also, anything in the Union or Broken Arrow school districts will be great. In the Broken Arrow area, I would recommend these subdivisions for your price range:

The Park on Florance (111th between 161st E. Ave and 145th E. Ave)
Stone Wood Crossing (Near a lot of new retail development and the new St. John Broken Arrow, opening in 2009.)
Estates at Pembrooke Park (on 129th E. Ave between 81st and 91st.)
Bentley Village (I believe this is off of 131st near 129th.)

Believe me, in this whole area, you will not run into any race issues. I hope you find a great place. Good luck!

Thanks for the information... I am going to fly down and take a look at a few homes in the South Tulsa area (near woodland hills mall) first before going over to Broken Arrow and then to Jenks. I start my new job in Tulsa in a few weeks so I hope we will find something soon! I am taking the risky FSBO route first... prior to getting a "buyers agent". We have done a lot of homework and now it is time to execute on our plans

I live by Woodland Hills Mall, I think there are plenty of good deals on houses in this area. I used a buyer's agent from Accent Realtors when I bought.

There are plenty of mixed race families in Jenks/Bixby. Okies don't care about these things and will judge you on your caracter rather than your looks. If you ever come across a person who DOES judge you on the color of your skin is most likely a transplant.

You may want to re-consider. Jenks/Bixby are is one of the fastest growing areas in OK and a great investment.

One word of advise .... have an appraisal done before you buy, and NOT by an appraiser referred by your realtor.

If you are a buyer, an agent should not charge you a fee. I am selling my house in this neighborhood and I pay both agents fees when I sell my home. Pearce10@cox.net - my house is a family home with four bedrooms up. A brand new elementary school is opening in my neighborhood next fall and a brand new YMCA is just over Garnett. I have loved living here, enjoying the diversity in my neighborhood, and am moving only due to transfer of job. Best of luck to you.
