Great reason to live in Mid Town vs. South Tulsa is.......
Help me out here.
Prices are higher, homes are older... Is it snooty or something?

It's an older, established area that you'll find in many cities where homes are more expensive.

Some areas of both are snooty. From midtown you can walk or bike to get something to eat, get hammered or go to work (not in that order). South Tulsa is (basically) car only.
Midtown is generally unique housing whereas you see a lot more cookie-cutter in South Tulsa.
Midtown is long established neighborhoods whereas South Tulsa didn't exist in 1970.

From what I have heard, the houses cost more because the taxes are lower making the demand for Midtown homes greater.

Interesting. I thought it was all the history there. We like the city.. But for raising our little guy, we are looking South, towards Bixby.

Not bad, but a lot of cookie-cutter homes with higher property taxes.
Whatever floats your boat, though!

What you heard is not true. Taxes might be perceived to be lower because some of these homes have not sold for a number of years. However, if you buy a Midtown or Maple Ridge home (which we did) the home is immediately assessed at the purchase price and the taxes go WAY up. In our case, the assessment went up by about $200k.

Yowza! I'll bet the property taxes on one of those homes is still lower than the outrageous property taxes I pay on my modest 150K home here in DFW.

Proportionally, our taxes would be $1850 annually on a $150k home. In reality, I think they would actually be lower than that due to some of the tax credits.
Here's an interesting article that might be another reason to live in some parts of Midtown vs South Tulsa...
