Albertson's has good meat and you can stock up when they have sales.

Aldi has private labels but notice how many BMW's, Mercedes, Lexus, Acuras, Land Rovers you see there. It is a store you can get in and out of pretty quickly once you know what you are looking for. (I like the bag of bonelss chicken breasts because they are individually frozen and not all stuck together .)
What's strange is the Aldi's I'm familiar with are in the ghetto and I wouldn't buy anything from an Aldi if someone paid me.

Albertson's, Reasons, Wild Oats ... High end, go to Patty's Utica Square.

Default Wal Mart SuperCenter and Aldis

There are major grocery store chains but none of the ones you mentioned...Reasors, Albertons (very expensive) but actually, most go to the Wal Mart Supercenters that are located evesry few miles. I LOVE Aldi's. Someone mentioned that they were only in ghettos in their town. That's not the case in Tulsa/Broken Arrow. All the stores are new as they just came in several years ago. I would purchase things in "ones" to see if we liked them. There are very few things I won't get at Aldis. (I don't like their cream soups, but Chicken noodle is fine and actually has morel chicken the Campbells) I get everything I can at Aldis', then fill in the gaps at Wally World (that's Okie for Wal Mart)

Go to Reasors if you want to spend an arm + leg there.

I know many people who speak disparagingly of Wal-Mart but either the Super Marts or the Neighborhood Markets have the best prices in the region bar none.

And most of the new ones do buy local produce (from Bixby specifically).

I love thread resurrections...LOL.

I'm finding the Wal-Mart frozen food sections to be insanely good lately. You can buy pasta with chicken, cauliflower with cheeze sauce, and much more that will feed two people for about 4 bucks. And the quality is spectacular. The meat section is also greatly improved. I still won't buy produce at Wal-Mart though.

What about Food Pyramid? I'm such a Reasor's fan that I only recently noticed the existence of Food Pyramid. And yeah, Reasor's IS expensive, but their sales are fabulous. Since I live practically next door to one, I just drop in there frequently and poke around to see what's on sale. Whatever is on sale on any given week (we're talking produce department, naturally) is mainly what I eat that week. But, now I'm getting curious about Food Pyramid. Have they the same morals as Wal-mart?

Food Pyramid is the former Albertsons. They have a lot the same product line as Albertsons did, but have upscaled some items. Like most businesses that compete with Wal-mart, they have to offer stuff that Wal-mart can't or won't. You will get higher quality on many items, and greater variety at Reasors or FP but you will pay more. The only folks that I have seen price compete in the shadow of Wal-mart has been Aldi's. Again, they found a niche market by offering a limited product selection that they know moves quickly. For them, the net per item is lower than Wal-mart can meet, but through volume and extreme cost control (ever notice there are rarely more than one or two employees at Aldi's?) they can beat Wal-mart on basics.

For meats, I usually get a steer or hog butchered for us, but when we do purchase beef or pork, I prefer to go to Perrys on South Lewis.....they are a butcher counter and their meat is excellent. I also check (when I am in the neighborhood) the meat counters at FP and Reasons for the stale dated stuff that has been marked down. For basic canned goods and staples, I go to Aldi's. For produce, I try to go to Conrads (if it is local and in season) or I go to who ever has produce on sale. For a lot of the mid range stuff (Wolf Brand, etc) I will go to Wal-mart. I have also started going to the chinese super market on Claussen in OKC (I am in OKC several times a month) for produce and oriental staples.

Did I miss something?
Reasors! Best beef without question!

We do our weekly shopping at Food Pyramid, which has a nice selection of organic/natural food in addition to national brands, etc. Every once in a while we buy certain items at Whole Foods (aka Whole PAYCHECK!)...We actually like groceries from Target Super Store on 71st/169...they have good prices, lots of selection and their in-strore Archer Farms brand is great!

Reasor's is good and there are the neighborhood Walmart grocery stores if you don't want to brave the Super store!

For bulk items...Sam's Club.
