I don't know that there is anything "bad" about that area. Maybe you could check the link below and see if there is anything to your liking. A gated community would be a plus for a single female. It looks like there may be lots of condos available. A friend of mine recently vacated a nice small condo at the Timberline, near 81st and Sheridan. Is there any way you could stay in a motel while you check out the areas of Tulsa?
North Tulsa isn't a very desirable area, as it is older.

Uh, BO, why so upset? Can a person disagree with someone without being (indirectly) called a troll?

And FYI - I'm new to this site, registered a few days ago while trying to find a family member an apt. in OKC.

I'm honestly trying to help. I've lived here a long time, and I drive by Hearthstone Condos on my way to work every day. They are rundown, and I do not believe it is a safe area for single woman to live.

BTW - read the Tulsa World 7/14 for crime and murder stats in the area mentioned.

I still don't see stats. Tulsa World uses zip code reports; the TPD web site has MUCH better granularity based upon mapping it 'by incident' so you can get an idea of where the worst crime is. TW generalizes based on areas. I see some auto thefts in there, just like everywhere else. This is a gated condo, so that shouldn't be as much of an issue.

BTW, it takes a considerable amount more to make me 'upset'.

FWIW, I've lived here my whole life (that's 41 years). I know people at every corner of this city, and while 67th and Lewis may be close to crime, it's not crime infested. I have a coworker who lives at 56th and Peoria and his neighborhood is just as safe as can be. Do you consider that area 'crime infested'?

The following tool may be of some use

------ "Yikes -- it's a terrible area! Close to the high-crime corridor around 61st and Peoria - stay away!"
-----"It is not a safe area for a single woman - stay away!"

Not when you're acting like one of the uppity characters from an SE Hinton novel. Nothing like hearing the Midtown/Brookside/Cherry Street/Utica Square tribal factions judge what is fit and unfit for consumption in Tulsa... "Stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold!!!"

I've lived on the northside of Chicago off and on for most of the last 20 years, and lived in various areas of Boston, Indy and Denver....... I grew up in Tulsa and moved back here in the last year and a half. Trust me, I know what "rundown" looks like...

I thought the biggest problem I'd have moving back here would be the political conservatives and evangelicals.... I've been surprised to find my biggest petpeeve these days are narrow-minded uppity Tulsans who are needlessly territorial... "I wouldn't live north of 41st Street" -- "I wouldn't live south of 41st Street" -- "I couldn't live in east Tulsa" -- "oh, you couldn't possibly...." blah, blah, blah... etc, etc, etc...

I live in the Hearthstone Condos. I am in my 40s. I sang opera regionally for years, never made alot of money, and never made it "big." So, when housing prices went crazy over the past decade, Tulsa was a natural choice for me.

The exteriors of the condo buildings are nondescript and don't look much different from any other circa 70s/80s-style apartment complexes in Tulsa. But I looked at several condos/apts and decided that I could sign a lease here with option to purchase at a later date if I liked the area/commute to work/condo itself. I liked the floorplan and the price and am currently leaning towards buying the place...

I've lived here since the end of June. I've found the complex is pretty quiet. It is gated, which doesn't prevent crime, but I feel more comfortable that crime is deterred. There are apartment complexes next door and across the street. One street over are the Royal Oaks Condos; those condos are not gated.

Driving by the complex is deceptive. The exterior isn't stylish and there is quite a bit of construction work going on for a few of the buildings to update the exteriors... I kinda wish they'd at least update their sign.

My next door neighbors are a young couple who moved from Louisiana to go to Victory/ORU. The people downstairs are a family with kids and dogs... they seem the type to go the lake on the weekends. I don't see drug dealers... I don't see prostitutes... I don't see public drunken-ness, at least haven't seen anything yet... no drownings or murders in the swimming pool or well-maintained coy pond......

There are quite a few females who live in this condo complex..... gee, maybe I'll ask them if they think it is rundown and if it's unsafe to live here........... actually I already did.

This is an urban area.... there is crime. It borders an area between 61st and 71st and Peoria that really seems to have gone downhill. I went into the QT off 71st and Peoria and it was a bit of an adventure...... sometimes looks can be deceiving, but sometimes you just go with what's comfortable for you based on your budget... and what you're willing/able to pay for...

Ana, if you're from roommates.com, I'm sorry you didn't get a chance to see the place. Someone else liked it and immediately moved in after paying up front.

I'm told that there are other 2bdr condos that can be rented for $675 to $725 plus electric... I don't know of any other roommate situations here.

If you are the person who's contacted me last month, feel free to call/email me to view the place. It could become available again in the next few months....

Jeff
