So, you have that it think about. However, I thought there was an art supply store around the TU area, but I guess I was wrong. They do have an art school, so you could try asking one the applied instructors there. |

I monitor the real estate prices in Tulsa and Oklahoma City pretty closely. It helps when I teach real estate appraising. I haven't noticed a significant decline in values. In fact, values seem to be increasing at a really solid 3%-4% per year, which is a healthy, non-inflationary growth in values.

I was basing my statement about art supply stores after calling about 6 or 7
artists in the Tulsa area. I can't remember whether or not I called Zieglers but it does appear by their website that they do carry many art supplies and I will give them a call. I would check out TU but it's been my experience that most college book stores often carry student grade paints and other supplies but this may not be the case at TU. Also I want all Tulsans to know that it is not my intent to bash Tulsa at all. From what I know about it I am very impressed and think it is a very pretty city. After working most of my life in Architecture/Design and the arts I try to be as objective as I can and leave the subjective critisim to the non professioals. Everyone has different likes and dislikes and that goes for the professionals as well. I'm just doing a comparison between Oklahoma City and Tulsa and possibly Kansas City. When I mention consertive I don't mean in the religious content at all and I would never be critical of anyone's religious beliefs and hopefully they would be the same towards me. I grew up in the midwest and at that time I guess I never felt that it was a place of the Avant Garde but, that in no way means that any of the midwest is a bad place at all. I will say that I really like most of Rand Elloits design work in Oklahoma City. He is a very progressive Architect from what I know about him he has done a lot for the community even though a lot of people may not feel that way. I have been as I mentioned to the Philbrook art museum and it is wonderful. I also thought is was of more classical design (nothing wrong with that at all and yes I do know the history of the building and the grounds) but I am wondering how it might compare with the newer Art museum in Oklahoma City. It appears to be newer and possibly a little more contemporary in design. There again please know that I am not attacking either city or institution. From what little I have seen I think they both seem like they have done a great deal to make both cities much more livable and have helped to provide the citizens a great deal of quality culture. I will by the way check out Zieglers and thanks for bringing it up. Thanks again for all your help and I mean it. It is very helpful and with the price of gas I want to do as much research as possible before making a fact finding trip. By the way I was wondering if any of you had attended the Object Project art show at the Philbrook? It is a show of 15 of america's top contemporary realism artists and is traveling around the country but I think it is still showing at the Philbrook. |

what is the job market like there? a lot of small business? — i've considered doing some research to start a picture framing company and use half as working studio/gallery. Any thoughts?

Really? I spoke to some real estate owners/specs in the area and their view was that the area was resilient for a bit, but finally started showing weakness. However, I concede to your experience. |

I know a number of artists who live in Kansas City & I get the feeling that there is a stronger arts presence in there than in Tulsa and OKC because of the art institute there. Not saying that you should automatically discount the other two, but I think that Kansas City (the Missouri side especially) is worth investigating. |
