Moving from Florida to Tulsa/General Info wanted
We desperately want to move out of Florida. We are originally from Colorado and we loved it there but it is too expensive. We are trying to get general info about Tulsa winters, schools, jobs, housing, etc.. Can anyone help?

i think goodpasture puts it in a good way we need to know what your careers are ,family size, and budget base, and desire for rural, suburban, or urban living. that being said i will give my take on the gerneral tulsa area which should help.
the tulsa winters are mild for the most part ave temps are lows in the 30's overnight and days in the 40's you get about 12 inches of snow for the whole season. the summer are warm highs in thye 90's.t the community is one of the lowest cost of living areas in the nation with the cheapest gas in the country right now. coming for colorado you are most likely used to montainous terrain which in tulsa and eastern oklahoma has atleast the foothill of the ozarks and the the witchita range so it is not open parairie there west of tulsa by an hour brings you to the plains.
sorry going to split things up now. tulsa is a midsized city and has roughly 1 million in it's metro area. the pace of life is a little slower then okc but is still is nice amount of culure and arts. opera, theater, and galleries are really solid.
you have solid education from both the public and private k-12 to the university sector.
the economy is a growing one with unemployment below 4% and the it is becoming a more diverified economy. you still have strong oil and gas, but you have telecom, aerospace, banking, manufacturing.
check out thecity of tulsa and the chamber sites to get more info they will lead to other sites to explain the area. i advise you take a visit and view for yourself and also look at the sticky thread on this site with the great pics for tulsa

I moved to a rural area North of Tulsa this past spring from Louisville, Kentucky. I must say, I was not ready for the sales tax which is 8% in my area. It adds quite a bit to the purchases. I came from 6% and nothing is taxed that you eat in the grocery stores. Cost of Oklahoma is higher in this area but the gas is cheaper for sure. I also lived in Florida for a few years and no state tax is a huge difference on paychecks but Florida housing and insurance is horrible. My overall impression is Oklahoma is not as cheap to live in as you might think it is.

Dear gettinout13:
I work in real estate and can give you some more specific information if you would like. If you have school age children, I would recommend one of the suburbs of Tulsa for better schools and more amenities in the community including community pools, parks, clubhouse, etc. Jenks and Bixby are probably the fastest growing areas right now with new riverfront, family entertainment areas, new shopping centers, and newer neighborhoods, as well as great schools. New homes in these areas can run from $150,000 on up to $2million, so it just depends on what you are looking for. Housing, utilities and insurance are extremely affordable here compared to Florida or Colorado. I have had other clients move here from Florida and Colorado, and they are very pleased with the cost of living in Tulsa.

Synopsis,
I have not lived here through the winter and it might influence my response. I live 1/2 mile from the road and I am told there is no treatment on the roads for winter travel! I left a $30.00 hr. job and I have been looking for 6 weeks now. So I am beginning to wonder if it was the right move for me.

They plow and sand/salt the roads, how soon they get treated and how often depends on how much the road is used. If you live out in the sticks you may have trouble during a bad ice storm. If you live in a more urban areas, then you should be okay.

I moved to Tulsa from the Tampa Bay area back in 2004. Where are you moving from? Just like what everyone else says, we need more info to help you.
